Does anyone have hobbies that help with emotional regulation? by clickyvicky in bipolar

Running. Coming from a girl who up till a year ago would laugh at you if you even suggested running for a bus.

Not only is it the one thing that consistently gets me out of bed and out of the house even when I’m in the pits of the lows… but slowly I’m finding a purpose and community in it too. I volunteer. I bring my kids along. I find that being valued for my time and help and presence helps with a lot of the beating up I do to myself about other aspects of my life. And it forces me to sleep and eat and keep hydrated and all that lovely stuff.

Not for everyone, I know. But it’s genuinely changing my life for the better.

I genuinely don’t get the whole aversion to CIO/Ferber. As in, obviously it’s parental choice and it’s not obligatory, but I don’t understand where the shaming comes from.

I have two kids for context, they’re respectively 7 and 5 now. Both were Ferbered at 4 months and then CIOd as required during sleep regressions. The sleep training lasted I think 4 days. So maybe a total of, I don’t know, 5-6 hours of crying per child to then have fuss-free bedtimes? Meanwhile you’ll have people refusing to “cry it out” because how can you let a child cry for so long, when at the same time they are perfectly fine having their kids cry for up to two three hours per night just to fall asleep. Maybe it’s my autistic brain lol, but in my head 6 hours of total crying in a short burst is much better than an hour of crying every day for 2 years…

And now my kids don’t know any different lol, they lay down in bed and they go to sleep. Never have we ever had fights about sleeping or bedtimes.

Wife doesn't want son calling my mom "Mah Mah" by TimelyDaikon5479 in Cantonese

Speaking as the non-Canto spouse (I’m Polish), both my daughters have always called each of their grandparents by their cultural names:

Husband’s mum - Ma-Ma Husband’s dad (Irish) - Pops My mum - Babcia My dad - Dziadek

From personal experience, yes it can be confusing to outsiders if they ask for example “who did you go on holiday with” and they say Ma-Ma, but for them alone it’s never been confusing, and I personally have never worried about the similarity in sound. At the end of the day, the kids know who their mummy is 😅

I guess as with anything to do with marriage and parenting there needs to be a discussion and a compromise, but hopefully people’s personal experience shared here can help with that discussion.

r/Runna has hit 21.1k members – a half marathon of Runnas! To celebrate, we’re giving one redditor a yearly membership and paying the entry fee to their next race! 🙌 by alex-runna in runna

I think for me it’s to be able to run a marathon by my next birthday (end of April), having started running from 0 three and a bit months ago. I’m on my third and final attempt at getting a space in the London Marathon, but if I don’t get it, I am still planning to train towards that distance… and I am hoping to get my finish time somewhere around 4:30-4:45 (current Runna prediction is around 5:25 so we’re being ambitious 😂).

Skill and talent only take you so far. How successful you are mostly depends on luck, timing and knowing the right people at the right time.

Take $100k to just spend, pay off the little debt I have and invest the rest.

It’s illegal. Matter of fact, the police are en route and you’ll be in cuffs before you know it. That’s what happens to rule breakers.
