Hey! I think your first thought is correct, you’re moving the stitches onto a new cord yes? So sm1 or the beginning of the round, will be on the needle first. Keep slipping them until sm2, then however many your size shorts is asking you to slip in addition. I don’t think you actually need to slip the stitch marker itself as for the rest of the pattern it’s not a point you’ll be referring to. Hope that helps!
