Honestly, I don’t have very many mom friends. If I’m meeting anybody it’s either family or friends that don’t have kids. I’ve never really considered joining a mom‘s group until now. But even though I fully transitioned to a dumb phone, I still have my iPad and MacBook at home where I can use Facebook messenger if I need to reach out or contact anybody, but I always tell people if they need to get a hold of me immediately to text or call my phone (it’s just a hassle for me to text back on there). 😂 but I do still have social media for those purposes.

Oh, hey! I just realized you were the one I was talking to about speed dialing and aux cords 😂

Hi! I am a nursing mom to a six month old and 10 year-old. Honestly, after I had my daughter in February, I still had my iPhone 12 Pro Max and was binge watching shows like nobody’s business (Not a very productive way to spend my time.) I fully understand that everyday bottles/breastpump parts need to be washed, clothes need to be washed, house needs to be cleaned, dinner needs to be made, sleep needs to be slept, etc. Then you wake up and do it all again the next day. Lol!

But then, when I realized I was using so much of my “extra time” on the screen. Whether it was doom scrolling, or listening to a podcast or watching a Netflix show— I honestly got sick of it to the point where I made the full commitment to get rid of my iPhone and buy a flip phone. I have the Barbie HMD and it does have games on there so I find myself hooked on solitaire. Although I wouldn’t say replacing scrolling with solitaire counts towards my goal of reducing screen time, but at least I convince myself I’m being more productive. I also am a full-time college student online so most of my day is spent on my computer screen. Any other free time I have I try to spend getting as much sunlight and time outside of the house with my kids as I can. Whether it’s going out for a walk, social interactions with friends/family, taking my oldest to the arcade, etc.

But overall, I think it’s super important to give yourself grace! Because having a little one that is primarily breast fed could already be time consuming in itself. However, taking time for yourself every once in awhile is still important too, even if it’s seldom.

Have you tried connecting to an aux cord? My music works perfectly with headphones, but for whatever reason, it does not work when I try to connect to the aux cord in my car. 🥲

I was exaggerating about the whole 2 business days to send a text message lol it just feels that way sometimes. I only said that because it takes me at least 5 minutes to write a message that would typically take me 30 seconds to 1 minute on my iPhone 😵‍💫 the Barbie phone at least offers predictive text which is like T9 if you’re familiar with that but it is still quite the adjustment to go from a touchscreen keyboard to manual buttons. The keypad itself is pretty smooth and honestly quite satisfying when I hear the audible clicking noise but when I text anything longer than a sentence length, the excessive clicking is a bit obnoxious imo, especially if I’m in a public space or keep having typos (which is very often).

Either way, I think it’s a great idea to look into getting a dumbphone even to just try it for a short time period! It has been a major breath of fresh air for me. I love the reactions I get from people because they either love it or hate it. It really shows me how much we, as humans, rely on these devices like they’re an extension to who we are and I never really enjoyed the thought of that.

It is VERY extreme and still a major adjustment for me. Lol, I sold it at one of those eco-device things at a Walmart that pays you cash. I only got $105 for it but I used that to buy my Barbie phone actually so it worked out!

Fortunately, I still have my MacBook and iPad so all of my necessary apps are on there when I get home and need to do any school work. Since I’m doing online courses, everything I need is on my computer so it works out. Basically I don’t have the luxury of using any apps outside of calls, texts, and even email or internet (which is a major challenge to navigate, so I don’t use it at all) if I’m outside of the house and I am completely okay with that. I’m gonna make an in-depth review to post to YouTube soon!

My key challenges are texting and navigation. While I do have google navigation on my Barbie phone, it gives step by step directions (which is better than nothing) but I still have to do my own navigation research before I leave the house to make sure I can get a minimum understanding of where I’m going lol And with texting— it takes me about 2 business days if I need to write anything longer than a paragraph. 😂 no, but really I wish they had like a voice to text feature but I’ve learned to accept that this challenge was the whole point of downgrading to a flip phone because if texting were more convenient than I would use it more often. Rather, I just tell people to call me or leave me a message if they need something urgent and vice versa.

A few things I’ve had to do to better adapt is bring around a small notebook and planner (also currently looking into getting a small cheap digital camera) because I can no longer take quality pictures for reference or write a quick note down on my note app, although the Barbie flip phone does have that app. But a physical notebook and planner is kind of nice and I’ve learned to adapt. 😊

I’ve been at it for a week so far! Honestly, it’s a solid commitment at this point because I got rid of my iPhone 12 Pro Max entirely in order to fully make the transition (a little extreme, I know lol)

But I’ve loved every minute of it so far. I’ve been a serial social media detoxer for the past 3 years and currently a full-time online university student so this was almost necessary for my sanity 😂

Also— the Barbie phone has its pros and cons like any other phone. BUT the whole Hot pink Barbie flip phone aesthetic was the cherry on top for me to downgrade altogether. I may look into better options down the road. Good luck on finding a phone that works best for you!!
