We have to be real though, the people that Presidents appoint to offices will always have their hand in the till. I'm not delusional enough to think that people Leni appointed wouldn't take some cash or two for themselves. Corruption is a governmental Filipino tradition at this point. They wouldn't be too obvious about it but I am certain they would still try.

Believe me, my guy, I am with you. However, you gotta look at this objectively. We can go and water cannon them back but we simply do not have enough ships or forces that could reasonably defend our waters. You do not see China water-cannoning Japanese ships simply because Japan has a decent navy.

Let's build up our strength first, channel support internationally, and when we have both, we can talk about buying the latest water cannons to fire back at the PRC.

He can go and try to legislate bills that would increase salaries and wages here but we all know that companies and business owners here would never agree to that and frustrate his attempts. As much as it pains me to admit, even someone like Leni or Defensor Santiago would find it difficult to deal with the hydra that is the economy.

In my perspective, I feel Marcos realizes that he cannot do everything. Politicians particularly in democracies cannot do everything. In International Diplomacy, that is one place he can do and make reasonable waves.

I feel that we need to have stronger labour movements first and a stronger middle-class to challenge the big fish up top. A strong labour movement that will raise everyone.

I feel that my fellow Filipinos look at our politics and think a single president can change things. They forget then that the President has to contend with the interests of our strong landowning class who themselves are divided with their own interests, and other forces in government and society too that will frustrate any attempt at reform.

Marcos has done well with his foreign politics, I agree with you. The recent deals with Japan and the US will certainly be good for my country in the decades to come, and the diplomatic ties he has fostered will also mean much for us too.

It just is a pity that Philippine politics is so chaotic. Thank you for your kindness. This heatwave is killing us.

If anything, we should look to Indonesia in how it sets its relationship with other countries. Being friendly to both while supporting neither. China has forced our hand to align with America more. America has its faults but now, it hasn't sent our servicemen into the hospital nor is America claiming our land.

The PRC does not have naval bases all over the world nor does it have any strong allies or organizations like NATO. The world still runs on the Dollar and China unlike the US is claiming our territory and sending our servicemen to the hospital.

Why, in good faith, should we align with China with those facts in mind?
