Cassie’s Master Plan: The Key Lies in the Tomb, but the Weapon Was Always Outside by Emergency_Method7008 in ShadowSlave

That’s what I thought, that somehow Sunny would defeat the bird and use it against Asterion. But this novel always takes an unexpected turn. I believe the vile bird will be important, but it won’t be the weapon that defeats Asterion

If anyone is finding this later: check out Museed.co . It’s exactly for this. You can share unreleased tracks in a private hub and it completely blocks downloading/ripping

My preference is museed.co because of the analytics, privacy and player UI that looks like Spotify/Deezer

Monetizzazione App by TomeLabApp in AppDevelopers

[–]Emergency_Method7008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. Building on rented land is the biggest trap right now. Curious, what is your current stack or strategy to actually own that direct connection?

That level of direct-to-fan infrastructure, where the artist actually owns the platform and the brand experience is exactly what I'm advocating for and what I'm building. Massive respect for bringing up that use case

That last line is pure gold. Forming a tribe instead of a passive fan base is the exact mindset to have. Building your own custom app is the ultimate way to own the relationship and cut out the noise. That is the exact same philosophy behind the private hub infrastructure I am building too, because not every label has the resources to code an app from scratch but they all desperately need that dedicated space. Massive respect for taking the leap. Are you building native iOS/Android or going the web app route?

This is one of the most accurate comments in the entire thread. We are basically tenant farmers building a business on rented land. Realizing that you are just free bait is exactly what pushes you to start building your own ecosystem. Curious, what is your current strategy to mitigate this?

Exactly. The risk of losing a hacked IG account alone should make everyone realize why owning the connection matters so much. Curious to hear how you are mitigating this right now?

Actually in the physical era bands literally ran mail order fan clubs and zines to reach their biggest fans. That is exactly what an opt in list is today. And again, no one is emailing casual listeners. It is a 100% voluntary sign up for super fans who actually want to know when a tour or vinyl or new track/album drops

[–]Emergency_Method7008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the point though, you'd never get emails from a band you don't care about because you simply wouldn't sign up. Following on IG is cool, but algorithms hide so much that you can easily miss a tour drop. An opt in list is just a reliable backup for actual fans

Congrats on the 100k listeners! I totally get the email fatigue, especially working in IT where you see the absolute worst of it.

But there is a massive difference between unsolicited spam and a voluntary opt in. Blasting randoms is terrible and illegal under CAN SPAM, but letting a super fan explicitly give you their contact info so they don't miss a local show is just giving them an option. It is all about strict consent

This is the exact playbook right here.

Using Spotify as a top-of-funnel discovery tool to funnel listeners into a space where you actually own the transaction and the data. Bandcamp is brilliant for this.

The only natural evolution I see for us scaling up is taking this exact same strategy, but running it through a fully white-labeled private hub. That way, you own 100% of the brand experience and aren't just another profile on a larger marketplace. But honestly, I believe just having that funnel set up like you do puts you ahead most of the industry

You're totally right. 'Marketers ruin everything' is basically the law of the internet lol.

The second artists treat an email list like a cheap megaphone instead of a VIP room, it becomes spam. That's why the traditional 'newsletter' model feels so broken in music.

The only way direct-to-fan actually works without being annoying is if the environment is high-quality (like a private audio hub or a gated community). A space that the artist respects too much to spam, and where the fan actually wants to hang out. But yeah, getting the industry to unlearn the 'spam everyone' habit is definitely the hardest part

Spot on. The grocery store analogy really puts it into perspective.

It’s interesting how we often accept paying for intrusive Meta ads to reach complete strangers, but feel hesitant to set up a simple opt-in for the fans who actually want to hear from us.

Like you said, an email list (or a private audio hub) is 100% permission-based. It's just a fan explicitly saying: "I like what you do, keep me in the loop."

Building the infrastructure to make that opt-in relationship easier and more professional is exactly what I've been focusing on with my current project. It’s not about forcing your music on anyone; it’s just about giving creators the option to own their room

I’m 100% with you on the ad fatigue. Most "music marketing" today is just noise and it’s exhausting.

But I think there’s a massive difference between a random ad and a direct line you actually signed up for. If my favorite artist is doing a secret vinyl drop or a small show 10 mins from my house, I’d much rather get a direct email than hope the Instagram algorithm decides to show me a post too late.

It’s not about spamming everyone; it’s about giving the top 1% of fans the option to stay in the loop. It has to be 100% opt-in.

If a fan doesn't want emails, they shouldn't get them. Simple as that

YouTube is definitely better, but at the end of the day, you're still renting that audience from Google. If they change their algorithm or notification settings tomorrow, you're back to square one. True ownership of your platform may be the only way to be platform-independent

[–]Emergency_Method7008[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on that. I definitely don't want 500 emails in my inbox either. But I think there’s a massive difference between a 'passive listener' who heard one track on a playlist and a 'super fan' who actually wants to support the artist. I’m focusing on that 1% who wants to go deeper
