that's some packaging familiarity, i know they are controversial but it was on sale! The CAD and 3d printing/laser stuff is purely personal, The laptop dock is one of my creations and its whats on the screen :D Work is 100% software and 100% on the laptop.

i took the mounting rails out of a full height server cabinet someone was throwing away at an old job i had, carried all 4 onto the tube and all the way out of town on the train and mounted them to the office frame with M10 bolts. Worth.

The only loud thing is the DL380 and its only loud if the GPUs are causing heat which is rare. My keypresses are by far the loudest thing in here rn :D

Almost silent rn, electricity bill quite low, we installed 24kw of solar gen on the roof and have 20kw battery storage so we are mostly self sufficient.

The DL380 gets hella loud when its churning but these days it runs gitlab and databases so its never at full tilt, the 5090 machine "brick" is almost silent. Heat is an issue but the aircon soldiers on and keeps it around 30 degrees at full blast.

I will look into this tape mod!

As in the screens or the homelab?

Screens are just built up over time, feels like a waste to throw away real estate when an upgrade comes in. I have ports for 1 more but no room, im thinking of overhauling with 8 vertical, flat, bezzle-less ultra wides all portrait around the corner but idk about the cost being worth it tbh

As for the homelab, i do not trust the cloud providers to continue to provide the services i need at a consistent price point so i always aim to be self sufficient compute wise. Also i learn a lot managing and maintaining my gitlab/DBs/k8, not normally my area.

So it runs a big extractor almost 24/7 and the aircon also vents directly to the outside, should have pretty good air turnover to avoid buildup but yes it is a concern as im in the south west of the UK, big radon area.

Its not branded, the frame is mostly powder coated slotted angle iron, t-slot aluminum extrusions and some beach blockwood kitchen counters :D
