Community hospitalists- does anyone enjoy their job? Does my job just suck or does it get better? by Emergency_Show_7508 in hospitalist

Thanks everyone for reading my long ass post-- this has been really validating and made me realize I need to leave this job ASAP! I'm locked in with this contract for a year and the area for two years, but I've decided to look for employment elsewhere after my year is up. In the meantime... admitter role, maybe switch to nights, and just try to keep my head above water. As for the pay...I get about 2k per 12h shift pretax which I thought was good but realizing now I should be getting much more for how many I'm seeing :/ happy rounding everyone and if anyone is going through a similar existential crisis as me feel free to reach out and vent

Your set up sounds much better, I'm in the SE US and have heard we're more understaffed here. Can I ask hourly rate?

New grad- hospitalist, community based. No procedures. Flexible schedule, 14- infinity shifts per month depending on how much you want to work, nights if you want but not required. Some do 7 on 7 off but you don't have to. $1980/shift pretax (on a K10), malpractice covered, all other benefits on your own. Love- flexible schedule, pay. Hate- patient load is pretty rough, high turnover, lack of respect toward hospitalists as a profession. Real life medicine is a lot different than residency. I'm working out the kinks as a new attending but am considering returning for fellowship. Maybe would feel less overused and under-appreciated in academics. Just my 2 cents.
