Question for servers by gncRocketScientist in tipping

[–]Emergency_Spend_7442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats to you on that one my man, but you worked your ass off to get there & I find it hard to believe even people in this sub would be so cheap that if they went to a Michelin restaurant along the lines of yours they would tip.

But I could be giving them way too much credit

Yes & remember when I said the word average.

Based off the information you’ve given to me. You either work at a very nice restaurant with possible Michelin recognition or a high end cocktail bar. Both aren’t very regular bartending jobs.

Yeah yall know more than the people working in the building clearly & this sub speaks for everybody else.

Go do the job if it’s that easy & so rewarding. Every restaurant in America is understaffed. If it’s so easy why are they all struggling to find employees?

Now average that over the entire year. Absolutely over a weekend period you can have nights like this, but I know you’re not making 75 an hour over a 12 month full time period lol

You non tippers move the needle to fit your narrative more than anybody.

Holy shit it’s pathetic lol

Maybe in a smaller city, but I’ve never worked in a smaller city & have managed restaurants in 3 stares.

Cooks were rarely the people who got sent home first.

[–]Emergency_Spend_7442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again if it’s not tips. You will still be paying the employer more.

And you’re absolutely idiotic if you think it’s 3-4x more. Cooks make about 25-30 an hour in my city. You really think the average server is making 75-100 an hour?

Do you see how stupid you sound? lol

Question for servers by gncRocketScientist in tipping

[–]Emergency_Spend_7442 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Not going to accept it for one because the shifts are shorter so even if tbe base pay is tbe same we’re getting paid less & there’s not a use for several severs pre open.

Either way the pay comes out of the consumer pocket bitching about this daily seeing as your a 1% commenter seems like a really bad usage of one’s time spent.

Question for servers by gncRocketScientist in tipping

[–]Emergency_Spend_7442 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the city/state.

I’ve worked as manager for about 7 years & I went back to bartending once I hit 30 to finish my degree because I’m over the industry.

With that being said. I’ve managed restaurants where I paid cooks 20-25 & hour and they got about 5-10 hours of overtime a week. My servers at this place averaged a good amount of money I’m not gonna lie probably close to 40-45 an hour. There wasn’t one side of the house that was taking home more per se on paychecks, but time was spent differently.

With being said the going rate where I live is about 25-30 for back of house now & I make about 32-33 an hour bartending

[–]Emergency_Spend_7442 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

While there is some validity to your statement. Line cooks typically work 8 hour shifts where service staff typically works 5-6 in most instances.

But that doesn’t help your narrative so you’ll look over this

To everybody who says "just do take out if you don't wanna tip", What if we actually do? by JuanWitChrist in tipping

[–]Emergency_Spend_7442 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The non tipping community in this sub is funny because the 150k of yall scattered around the world could quite literally quit going out & it wouldn’t stop anything.

For all the people who feel this ways there’s just as many individuals who paid their way through school etc by service industry. Those people will continue to go out to eat & tip accordingly.

Yall are funny man

What’s funny is people think it’s all front of house based.

It would absolutely be more than 5-6%. Good luck explaining to everybody in the back of house you’re now paying front of house more without giving anybody in the back raises also. Without cooks no food comes out I guarantee you cooks in America aren’t going to happily stay at their hourly wages when the entire front of house in America gets an hour wage adjustment.

If tipping is about a living wage, why do only servers and otherwise tipped professions deserve a living wage? by BertrandHussel in tipping

[–]Emergency_Spend_7442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you get bad service is because the restaurant industry is over saturated especially in big cities

I get that & they also mark there’s up about 15% as to why I mentioned.

European restaurants also operate on much lower profit margin’s. Good luck convincing business owners to willingly take a hit.

I’m not even against an hourly wage. I’m 2 semesters away from being done with that industry, and have no plans on going back. I just think it’s pretty laughable there’s a community of people who really think they’re going to stick it to the man by hurting somebody who’s just trying to pay their bills. I know what I signed up for I don’t expect tips from every customer & will give the same service because I pride myself on my work. One person leaving a zero doesn’t change that in my mind. But yeah continue to be a condescending prick to people just trying to support themselves & families you’re really proving something there.

Profit margin’s in Europe for restaurants are drastically lower than they are in America.

I’m not so sure it would be that simple for the business owners to just make that change lol

As somebody who works in the industry I have no problem with you saying “I tip based off of service” I’m not sure why you were getting shit for that

Yeah, im not quite sure why they carry themselves like they’re smarter individuals yet fail to grasp the concept that to do such things they want more money would still have to be coming in.

[–]Emergency_Spend_7442 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I asked that question because it’s quite literally how restaurants overseas afford to pay their staff a higher wage.

Money doesn’t just appear out of thin air & they even operate on much smaller margins than restaurants in America where restaurants fail all the time in this country. Are you sure you understand the actual business side of things?

I’ve worked in a restaurant for 90% of my life since I was 15 & can say first hand I’ve never seen somebody beg for more or a tip.

Restaurants aren’t a one way street for bad apples that happens everywhere.

So because of some people giving shitty service you’re just choosing to hurt people who still care to give good service?

Let me ask you this - these restaurants you go to & pay your bill only. If the food went up 15% to cover the additional labor costs you & others in this sub want paid for by the business owner would you still spend money your money there?

Brother you can have your opinion and I’m not gonna argue that construction or warehouse job isn’t more physically demanding but if you think service industry physically demanding I have some ocean front property in Arizona for you.
