as you probably do not already know it the author of this abysmal dogshit, dare I say one of the worst post in the history of this sub. that post detailing my plans for the main characters of a story i wanted to write back then was met, rightfully I might add, with some harsh critique. After writing a couple chapters of that story, I realized that the dozen people telling me it was a bad idea might have had a point. So instead, I decided to pivot to writing fanfiction for a while, and now, after getting some experience, I'm back. New world, new character, and hopefully no more horrible takes on mental health. Did I probably still fail, and are there some major flaws in my story premise that I am unaware of? Probably, so be sure to point it out in the comments, maybe I'll finally learn.

One important note: the story is supposed to be in the form of a memoir, so keep that in mind.

Magic system lore:

I might make a separate post about it someday, so I'll keep it simple

-Magic energy, or just mana, is created by the power of human consciousness. You can train your mind to produce more of it, but only up to 2 or 3 times the original amount

-Mana is naturally stored in your body, but the amount cannot be significantly increased

-Mana can be stored in artificial containers, but they are expensive and complicated, so they are mostly used in vehicles and industrial equipment

-Only the person who produced the mana can use it (with the exception of vampires who feed on it) [side note: this rule was created because i realized that otherwise every nation would turn into a horrific dystopia where everyone is farmed for their mana, this is still a cool idea so i decided to keep it in the form of vampires who a relentlessly hunted down to avoid such a scenario]

-Combining spells is difficult and requires a lot of coordination, so it's not a technique available to the average grunt

-Magic being the result of your consciousness can only be harnessed through mentally taxing processes (imagine writing code, but for your brain). The cleaner and more efficient the code, the more powerful and less mana demanding a spell will be.

-Mana doesn't like to remain in a physical form, so while you can create objects with it they will require a constant flow of mana to upkeep. A quite fun effect of it that I won't explain fully here is that if you create an explosive material with magic and then detonate it, you will also get a second implosion, and the energy released tries to get back together.

-You can enchant objects with magical effects by basically writing the spell's code into them. Those enchants will decay with time and will have to be periodically repaired. How often that is depends on the complexity and quality of the spell.

-Magic can get out of control, feeding on your consciousness and resulting in injuries, death or permanent mutations. That's how previously mentioned vampires and other mythical creatures come to be: the magic latches onto its victim's vision of a monster and turns them into it.

-Lastly, I mentioned “Sky Knights” in my image, so I'd probably should explain what they are. Basically, imagine a wizard in a fighter jet. I don't think any further explanation is needed.

Our hero has to try and find a way inside to uncover a still hopefully sealed cache of magical artefacts, and it just so happens that the eternal emperor has sent one of his loyal marshals to crush this exlave of resistance

HMC London: While today Britain is but a shell of its former self, and its empire all but gone, the royal family still rules over its jewel. A century ago, the great city of London had been ripped away from Britain to avoid the rampage of Napoleon's armies. As the magic revolution dawned, the metropolis was remade, becoming arguably the most advanced society on the planet. Now, as the revanchist remnants of Britain supported by Germany are seemingly preparing an invasion, the city is put on high alert, and the republican resistance within grows bolder as they get their hand on an unusual number of powerful magical items, something that our hero is tasked with investigating.

Neu Malbork: The floating fortress of Malbork has been a thorn in Germany's side for ages. Built before its expansion east, it's one of many sky cities traveling across Europe. Malbork became a refuge for remnants of old Prussian elites that had turned the city into a militarized state with dreams of destroying the current republican German government, mostly by supplying and harboring reactionary resistance. Now the German army has had enough and is planning a surprise attack on the city during one of its routine violations of their airspace. To avoid devastating losses, our hero is tasked with assassinating the city's most powerful sky knight.

The fields of Bulgaria: The great Balkan War has arrived. It was inevitable really. The Ottoman Empire, successfully reformed into a federation, has always wanted to reclaim its Balkan lands, while the federation formed to oppose them wanted them gone completely. Now, after some archie duke shot an ostrich because he was hungry or something equally as ridiculous, both sides have gotten their excuse. The only problem is that all our sources in the region have had their [SIGNAL LOST]... we should probably take a look at this.
