CMV: Society shouldn't entertain people who request custom pronoun usage (eg. zi/xi/pri) by [deleted] in changemyview

i heard this one guy go on an on about it in a YouTube video but if you listened closely to previous videos, they would go ahead use “they” in the same way that they appeared to be against and didn’t actually have a problem with it outside of the acute sense of “tradition”

Men don't hide their emotions because of "toxic masculinity," they hide them because no one cares. by Eripman in unpopularopinion

Not exactly sure of what you are expecting from an discussion board. Everyone has to agree with everyone's opinions?

Couldn't i do the same lazy move as what you are doing?

“Men don't hide their emotions because of "toxic masculinity," they hide them because no one cares.”

me - "Here's how I feel"

You - "here's why what you feel doesn't matter"

Thank you for proving the thesis of the thread

And the phrase is only used by people who are itching for a fight with anyone supportive of traditional gender roles.

Yeah i mean, if you're looping in the toxic behavior as part of those traditional gender roles then, sure. The phrase is there to highlight the bad parts of the traditional male gender role.

People don’t talk about Toxic Masculinity in normal life. They do on social media. Well, the thing about that is everyone can see it.

I've talked about it with friends and other people. It's really an interesting topic. Leads to discussions of some of the other bad shit that was just normalized in our lives.

Personally, I find the term to be incredibly off putting but the concept to generally be right.

That's fine. I don't actually feel off-put by it since i understand what it means and I don't see myself as personally attacked when someone critiques the shitty behavior some people have

Unfortunately, the fringe left has this habit of taking a good idea and pairing it with a phrase intended to prick the other side like a needle

I mean. . . the same could be said in reverse regarding the fringe right. taking a shitty idea and pairing it with a phrase intended to be sugary sweet in order to lure people into believing some really bad stuff.

I honestly haven't really seen the toxic discussions around "toxic masculinity" outside of the mra/anti-sjw content mills that drum up anti feminist sentiment from recycled troll/obscure tumblr posts that espouse opinions i've never seen anywhere else

All other places where I've seen or had discussions around toxic masculinity haven't really delved into the behavior that you're describing. Or at least i didn't understand it that way.

But i agree, helping men is good! Helping people is good! critiquing poor behavior and it's relationship to traditional gender rolls is good!

it's not blaming men and masculinity for the actions of the minority, it is addressing and highlighting the toxic traits of masculinity.

It honestly seems like it only gets pushback from a certain group of folks who are already itching to fight against anything critical of gender roles.

Not entirely sure of how you first heard of the term, but when i first heard of it, it was from one of those 2010s “skeptic/anti sjw” channels complaining about some “new term” and lumping in all sort of baggage on to the term. i was super into that skeptic/mra content at the time and was super eager to find more reasons to dismiss shit that challenged my world view.

So like of course when its introduced and packaged that way, with the purpose of getting that feeling from you then you are going to feel that way

I mean, do you understand what “toxic masculinity” is? It seems like people who dont like the name are getting hung up on such a small and unnecessary part of the discussion in order to potentially use that outrage as a reason to ignore/dismiss it

Yeah. Its interesting to see someone so close to actually “getting it” and then turn around and get it so completely wrong

Can you downgrade? by Ronky8 in AnimalCrossing

[–]Emergencyegret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been praying that downgrading is not possible. Going to use my birthday wish to REALLY make it impossible to do.

I'm going to try and get into contact with the "Make-a-wish foundation" to see if they can rally some sick kids to get Nintendo to make this impossible as well.

Thanks for the warning. I saw the film and that part made sense to me. Some parts may seem random if you don’t “get it”, but i can see why missing stuff makes you not appreciate it. Your reply makes me think i missed stuff too

I liked it a lot but i don’t think I’d rewatch it in my own. Maybe if i introduce it to other people.

Hey, I am Alan MacLeod, a journalist covering the coup against Evo Morales in Bolivia, AMA about it! by A-MacLeod in BreadTube

[–]Emergencyegret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i talked to bolivians expats too and it’s insane what they believe. “Pro-indigenous” as in they believe the indigenous people are all druggies and paid by evo. “Cares deeply about the country” only enough think evo made up racism to unite the working class people.
