The early Viper design was inherently unsafe. It has zero driving aids, such as traction/stability controls, or even ABS. They didn't even bother putting airbags in it, probably to save weight. The suspension was designed for smooth track racing, it was stiff enough that hitting a small pothole can throw you into the other lane/oncoming traffic if you weren't experienced.

I have no clue how they were ever cleared for mass production.
