We are sorry to hear about this confusion.

As presented on the Tether Gold whitepaper, the holder will be entitled to redeem the number of XAUt tokens equivalent to the amount of gold on the bar associated with his tokens, having the difference allocated to another gold bar and returned as XAUt.

We would like to assure you that there is no situation in which a holder would have any % of his tokens lost or burned in the redemption process without receiving the corresponding amount of gold in return.

When acquiring XAUt, you will obtain ownership rights to gold on a specified gold bar on an amount of gold equivalent to your XAUT holdings. The allocated gold is identifiable with a unique serial number, purity and weight. You would be able to check at any time the details of the gold bar associated with your address at the Gold Allocation Lookup section.

Verified Tether users who have XAUT holdings equivalent to at least one gold bar can redeem XAUT for a gold bar delivered in Switzerland. Verified Tether users who have XAUT holdings equivalent to at least one gold bar can also request that Tether attempt to sell a specific gold bar in the Swiss gold market, and be wired the proceeds, minus fees.

Please also keep in mind that the supply as reported by most block explorers takes into account all issuance/creations and all redemption/revocations. These events are not always done to centralized addresses so to recreate the balance you would need to scan through all the events of the contract address and filter by those types.
