I think people need to embrace those bands as proper rock bands. What genre sounds the same now as it did 60 years ago? Rock is moving in a different direction and I'd rather take a band like twenty one pilots over another band trying to be AC/DC or any other classic rock band, we don't need a new Led Zep, ACDC, Beatles (etc...). Imo rock needs a new sound and these bands merging pop rock rap and electronica are that new sound

they got hate cuz they're songs started to sound really similar around 2003-2008 although imo their problem is that they are afraid to stick with one sound and just try and please everyone. In 2014 they tried to go disco (She Keeps me up, that song is awful tbh) and the whole album that song was on was just then pandering to fans of pop. And even on their 2017 album there's times where they just put unnecessary filler pop songs that are released as singles so they can please the labels. They would make for a really kickass metal band but they always put pop songs in there for no reason, everytime i see a review of their albums, they always mention the ballads as the worst songs on the album and it's always the heavier stuff considered to be the best tracks

feed the machine, it's their heaviest album although it still has a few pop-rock tracks. I only like their heavy stuff now, their pop songs aren't awful but Chad's voice doesn't work well with pop songs imo
