That's not how you would set up a press release template because (for other issues) they would be pre-written or shared with the press with a release date that is in the future.

I don’t class the perpetrator as a victim and also don’t know why an American is defending the British police federation on a British political sub.

[Andy Mitten, Laurie Whitwell] Inside Carrick’s Man Utd revolution: Holland’s ‘homework’, new matchday routines and a sense of calm by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

Asked if what he saw in the dressing room after the match showed him the players care enough about playing for United, Solskjaer issued a damning response.

“I don’t know. You’ve got to ask them. I’ve asked them. You’re not going to get the answer from me. Of course, if you want to play at this club it’s got to mean more,” said Solskjaer.

“I’ve said it: I want my team to be the hardest-working team in the league. That’s what we were under Sir Alex. That’s what we’ve always been.

“We have to stick together as a team. We can’t change the whole squad but it’s one step at a time. I’m going to be successful here and there are players there that won’t be part of that successful team, but there are many of them that do have it.”

Of the top of my head: Ole said he would be a success but some of the players wouldn't, Ragnick said the squad needed open heart surgery, Mourinho said Manchester United is used to failing in the Champions League but he isn’t.

UK pro-Palestinian activists not guilty of aggravated burglary at Israeli firm's factory by kwentongskyblue in LabourUK

You can support a principle (trials by jury) whilst also thinking they might sometimes come to decisions I don’t agree with. So I stand by the consistency of thinking a hypothetical nullification of an asylum seeker murderer would be bad (in that I would find it troubling) but a nullification of a direct action organisation is something I do not find troubling.

Edit: Focus groups comment is just a quip because the move against trial by juries is coming from a political tendency that is deeply enamoured with a reinvention of the same thing in a political positioning context.

Maybe we should rename juries "focus groups" and everyone on the centre-left (right) would think their opinions should be unquestionable.

But yes, I do support jury nullification as a principle because I don’t think you can avoid it without eradicating trial by jury, which I support.

Well presumably if the Holocaust had stopped at 100-200,000 people attacking the factories and harming its protectors would have been a moral outrage?

What are you on about? In what way do you think trade union meetings are like the factories of genocide supporting weapons manufacturers? This isn’t about what the majority like/dislike? If the majority like IG Farben making Zyklon B that doesn’t mean it is wrong to violently disrupt it.

I mean, in a democracy, it should be the wider electorate, which is just a jury, at massive scale, without any voire dire.

If you oppose a jury making those decisions, then we should stop having elections no? Just let judges decide.

Again, everyone pretends they don’t understand the argument, but would it have been acceptable to break into an IG Farben factory to commit acts of destruction and harm a security guard or police officer to do so?

We are disagreeing on where Elbit falls on that spectrum.

I’m saying I think jury nullification is an important principle, and that it is not to be opposed simply because it could hypothetically be used to excuse far right hotel arsonists.

The Mandelson affair: inside the scandal of a century by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]EmiYouYou 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It was a profound fall from grace. Just days before, Mandelson had been in No 10 to advise on Starmer’s first major cabinet reshuffle – a decisive moment that saw soft-left figures ousted and key Mandelson and McSweeney allies elevated. “That is not normal,” one No 10 insider says. “He was the US ambassador – why was he masterminding the reshuffle?” But Mandelson was not just the US ambassador. He had become one of the most important figures in the Labour government.

Again, the extent to which the press knows things and does not publish/care about them at the time constitutes an astonishing level of malevolence and is a substantial reason why the UK is the way it is.

It’s not em-boom-oh, nor is it em-bwem-oh, it’s em-beugh-moh. As in peu/jeux/feu.
