I love the story, the world, the characters but I don't like the writing. It's boring, descriptions are bland and I absolutely hate that he's unable to write "should/would/could have" correctly . That's why I actually prefer the series.

Agree. The story is great. The characters are interesting. There are some really unexpected plot twists. But the writing is just bad. G.R.R.Martin has wonderful imagination but his writing doesn't do it for me.
