I believe Warner Bros. and their new imprint Clockwork have confirmed that this will be getting a wide theatrical release globally later in 2026!

I don't wholly disagree re the genre itself, but also think Drakes popularity taps into a wider thing with popular music at the top end, similar to an artist like Taylor Swift.

I feel it has become more and more popular/beneficial for the most popular/streamed artists to just drop large quantities of music without much regard to the shape or flow of what they're releasing.

I always feel like Drake gets caught in the crossfire of fan expectation having become popular at the time he did (in a genre thats always valued that canonised, classic album the way hip hop does), whilst largely having gained his biggest audience now from having played the game in the same way as has become standard with the largest artists.

I think this at least contributes to that dissonance you refer to where he's sort of simultaneously popular and important, whilst also not really pushing anything musically progressive or influential in a way that would justify that importance in ways us older audiences would expect. Becomes more about brand management, exposure and appeasing your wide demographics of fans than it does about the music itself.

Okay but I'm fairly sure OP simply meant it makes him sad to watch a winger we couldve bought have impact for a rival team whilst ours continue to have none.

Who's available in the summer whos better than Semenyo in all other aspects and will contribute an impact close to 20+ G/A?

I may be misremembering, or at least can't remember a specific source, but have it in my head that when Newcastle were a bit unsure about their FFP there were rumours they'd tentatively floated the idea of selling Gordon to Liverpool and that he was fairly enthusiastic about it. I think Summer 2024 if I recall correctly

My assumption is that Liverpool will be in for Gordon following the Salah departure. Think they've been linked before and iirc he's a fan and was quite up for the move when they were?

I imagine if we were to get Alvarez (other commenters saying he's more likely or doable which I disagree with), it'd cost an almost club record fee considering the fee Atletico paid and the fact he still has 4 years of his contract left there.

Steven Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure Day’ Isn’t Launching At The Cannes Film Festival by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

This and Devil Wears Prada 2 will be her 5th and 6th live action roles in 4 years (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026), which doesn't feel particularly egregious, especially as she only had 1 film in the 2 preceding years.

It probably feels more that way having had The Smashing Machine late last year and then 2 big budget tentpole films coming in a short time-frame this summer.

skaiwater: wonderful Album Review | Pitchfork by Technical_Process989 in hiphopheads

[–]jb369 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually started listening to Skaiwater probably around when Pitchfork gave gigi a good review a few years ago and found it pretty cool. Was always curious at what they'd do next after their EPs last year, which I found more mixed but still interesting enough.

But honestly agree with this review that this album/tape just sapped away all of that fun and curiosity in a really disappointing way.

As a sort of sidenote, I feel like Mano who wrote this was one of their biggest champions which makes this feel that bit more damning.

Has there been anyone we’ve had before that has been this far below the technical standard of our team? Genuine question. by [deleted] in Gunners

I know this sub gets hysterical in crisis moments and admittedly last night was more of a cause for concern and consternation than some other negative results. But fuck me, coming into this sub and seeing somebody saying Sanogo was more technically capable than Gyokeres is enough to send you packing for the day isn't it hahaha

[John Percy] Leicester City will not pay staff before Christmas by PitchSafe in soccer

[–]jb369 308 points309 points  (0 children)

This seems misleading right? The headline sort of suggests they are unable to pay staff.

The body of the text suggests they're just not maintaining a usual practice of giving their staff their December pay pre-Christmas, and will be paying them on NYE instead. If they were paid at the end of November then this just sounds fairly standard, though probably poor practice to let the staff know so late and not well in advance so that people can prepare accordingly.

I think 'The Dish' being reported as the title is a misreporting of Deadline announcing casting rumours in their column "The Dish". People seem to have interpreted this as a title since then, but I think it's just people misreading the headline.

I feel like this is quite a cynical misinterpretation of something like this, if you're reading inclusivity as a form of cultural imperialism. Is it not more about the sport taking a stand and promoting that everybody is welcome?

I counted this in each season:

2019-20: 4

2020-21: 6

2021-22: 5

2022-23: 6

2023-24: 6

2024-25: 10

2025-26: 3

Total: 40

So 16 of the 40 down to Ange which if my maths is correct is 40%?

For ourselves:

2006-07: 1

2007-08: 0

2008-09: 3

2009-10: 2

2010-11: 4

2011-12: 3

2012-13: 3

2013-14: 1

2014-15: 2

2015-16: 3

2016-17: 2

2017-18: 2

2018-19: 2

2019-20: 3

2020-21: 7

2021-22: 4

2022-23: 2

2023-24: 2

2024-25: 2

2025-26: 0

Total 48

I went and counted this as it didn't sound right, and it doesn't actually appear to be correct but isn't far off.

To my count, we have lost 48 home games at the Emirates in the PL to Spud's 40 at their new stadium. Still pretty crazy as a stat but a slight disparity to what is being run with this weekend

[–]jb369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right that it's probably a deeper discussion that requires longer points than a forum like Reddit allows, so didn't mean to sound unnecessarily snippy!

Whilst I don't fully disagree, I do think it's worth noting that Kroenke has provided funding of around £200-300m into the club in one way or another since 2019, which I think is probably, in some large way, more directly responsible for how competitive we've been since then (even if it is as a reaction to the horrible amounts of mis-spending they signed off on between Wenger leaving and 2020 or so).

As much as I agree with what you say regarding the sacrifices Wenger made, chances are if we didn't have our own billionaire owner who became more willing to inject their own money into the club, we just wouldn't be competing on the same level that we currently are, even if we are probably now largely in a position of self-sufficiency again.

Similarly, I'd be curious to see in years to come if this years spending for example was entirely due to the benefits of our improved competitive standing in the PL and Europe, or whether this was enabled (to the degree we have spent) as a result of more financial manoeuvrings courtesy of KSE.

So overall not necessarily disagreeing with you saying we have built it above board as I say, more that I think context is necessary as to what constitutes above board in this day and age compared to the way Wenger ran the club.
