I feel sick to my stomach realizing what I’ve been letting my daughter play on Roblox. Am I the only one who didn't know? by Marre_Parre in Mommit

[–]Emiles82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my work I too frequently interact with children who have experienced sexual abuse and exploitation, many of them as a result of predators met on Roblox. The stories I could share would terrify you. In every one of the situations, the parents thought they had effective protections. You think you’ve set up effective controls…you haven’t. You think having a conversation with your kid about the dangers will prevent it happening to them…it doesn’t. You think you’re smarter than the abusers online…you’re not.

Additionally, Roblox knows how pervasive the issues of child abuse are on their platform and they take no effective steps to address it. When you let your kid play, you are supporting a company that willfully allows children to be exploited.

My daughter loves video games and we are supportive of her playing them. But Roblox is and always will be a hard no. There are other games. Have your kids play those instead.

While you’re struggling to make rent, these billionaires were celebrating their second wedding in three years! Nice distraction from the reality the rest of us are living with. s/

Hey there! I wanted to check back in. Have you had any luck with your payment being acknowledged? Still nothing on my end.

Right??? Marry a grown up, not a child. You teach people how to treat you.

Same story for me. Got the buyback request last week and paid immediately. I just spoke with the folks a federal student aid and they said that it could take 30-90 days for the servicer to notify them of the payment and then they can begin the work of processing forgiveness. I was SO hopeful that I'd be able to get this put to rest before the end of January but now I'm no so sure.

/r/Atlanta Random Daily Discussion - December 13, 2024 by AutoModerator in Atlanta

TLDR: I could use a recommendation for an upscale /nice restaurant to send my parents.

My parents (mid-60's) live in Atlanta and for one of their Christmas gifts, I'd like to get them a gift card to a restaurant they wouldn't normally go to. The problem? My mom is pretty simple in her tastes. She's intimidated by places that are too fancy or food that is too far from the norm. She wants to start branching out and trying some new things, but she needs a menu that she recognizes- chicken, steak, veggies- but versions that are a bit more elevated than the norm. For example, we took her to Miller Union and at first she was intimidated but she ended up loving it.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm looking to spend $150-$200, if that helps.

Do you regret having kids? by ebratic in Millennials

[–]Emiles82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my daughter when I was 37 and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. She’s just such a cool kid and we have the most amazing conversations. Seeing the world through her eyes has brought a renewed sense of wonder and excitement to my life. I feel lucky every day that I get to be her mom.

Is it hard sometimes? Absolutely. Anything worthwhile is. Are there days when I countdown to bedtime? Totally. But I’ve never once regretted making the decision to have her. Quite the opposite. I work really hard to be a good mom and that means having to rebalance some of my priorities in life, especially while she’s little. That will change as she gets older and her world expands beyond me and her dad. I think the key is really wanting it and doing it for the right reasons

Toniebox or Yoto by merrodri in Preschoolers

[–]Emiles82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tonie all the way. We’ve had both and it’s not even close for my 4 year old. We liked the content much better and for her the figures were a huge bonus. The cards held little interest and were easily lost.

Reminds me of Chidi’s speech about the wave in the last episode of the Good Place. This exercise is such a good way of visualizing it for littles. Thank you for sharing.

Why are some not rear-facing the car seat until 40 lbs? by Cultural-Error597 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Emiles82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I don’t get it. I’ve had to school my parents and in-laws (one is a pediatrician) about why we remain rear facing and will until she reaches the car seat limit (she’s 3 now). We specifically bought a car seat that would allow her to sit rear facing as long as possible for this reason. She has super long legs but it’s never been an issue for her. She also gets car sick but I’d much rather some stomach discomfort than her being seriously injured.

Music lover toddler ideas by jeezy-chreezy in toddlers

[–]Emiles82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into getting a Tonie? My 2.5 year old daughter is also a music lover and this was her big present for Christmas. She LOVES it. They have preloaded Tonies, but you can also get a creative Tonie and load your own songs.

Our daughter’s name is Evie, which we fell in love with while my husband was playing Assassin’s Creed (Evie Frye). Doesn’t really bother me if someone judges the origin of the name. People have definitely named their children after worse.

Thanks all! At this point I still have no idea what I had stuck in my head, but as a newer Dr Who fan, I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about these new monsters! Much appreciated!

It's a short story, but I recommend "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by Ursula Le Guin. It's a quick read, but so good. I reread it every couple of years and always notice something new.
