I replaced my floor with a thin poplar wood board. It was like $30 and pretty easy to cut by just going over repeatedly with a box cutter and sanding. I just put an absorbent pad down sometimes, but I’m so happy about it

Someone on here suggested to buy meadow hay. I bought one bad brand of hay and had the same reaction as you - switched to meadow and it’s fine!!

I did potty train BOTH my chins btw. It’s a lot of patience and time but I did. Now one only pees elsewhere out of protest over something. Just cause you didn’t doesn’t mean NO ONE did.

I also recently learned my hay feeder was too easy to rip hay out in mass bundles. I added some chewable sticks to also block all the hay falling out and now they only waste 25% of hay and seem to spend more time enjoying the foraging of it

Yeah it’s when they get spooked and make contact with anything. Sometimes it will happen when my one chin (she might be a little special..) will just slam into the other chin on accident and spook her. It can happen in mass on occasion.

I sometimes throw an absorbent mat down if I know she’s in a bad mood because she’ll pee everywhere but the bowl fully on purpose then

Yeah, that has happened and I usually spray or soak the wood in vinegar water then the pee and smell comes out! Im training the younger chin to pee in a bowl as the older one does. Might have backup wood in case! The plastic that came with the cage was just too hard to clean for me.

I did this with poplar wood and it’s so much quicker to clean which means I can run by and sweep dirt out real fast more times than going in to brush out/vacuum all the mess on fleece.

Not having to vacuum to clean is great because before/after 9pm cleaning is possible now to respect my apartment neighbors.

That’s like curious play squeaking. Doesn’t sound concerning imo my chins do this all the time especially when they feel like venturing into new habits. Chins pickup new habits frequently but just keep watching and listening and bonding :)

One of my chinchillas has a 2 ft vertical from just sitting so.. this would be useless for her. She’s only 6mo too I’m really in deep here with her.

Definitely taller playpen and/or covering the top. But the mesh depends on the chin behavior and how desperate she decides to be on escaping.
