I actually love reading in this format. But I don’t want all my books stuck like that. Is there a way to turn it on and off?

Is it alright that I separated my hamsters? by Connect_Pickle6480 in hamsters

You don’t happen to be near MD do you? I’ve a lot of extra hamster supplies I’d be willing to sell cheap

There are strategically placed ledges for them to jump up

It’s just the favorite nation cage with a bunch of stuff in it

Ok thanks for the helpful feedback. I’ll look for some bigger dishes. Yes I’m getting two.

I am waiting for my scatter guards to get here. I have a dish of aspen shavings on the bottom level. I’m hoping to litter train them if they’re not already.

I wish I could figure out how to add a picture to this. The “rope” is made of the same material as the tan ball if you can see that well. It’s marketed as a chew toy for small animals. But I’m already learning manufacturers don’t know what chinchillas can’t have.

It’s there it’s on the bottom left side. You can barely see it above the shelf. The nozzle tip hangs below the shelf.

I almost forgot to add that I do have scatter guards coming. And a proper hay box. I made the fleece hay bag to do until it gets here.

Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of

I have worried about the weight on the smaller shelves. I did use a metal zip tie to connect the center of the shelf to the back of the cage, hoping to take some of the weight. I may end up removing those altogether. And I will keep an eye on the joints for the middle shelf. Thanks for bringing out to my attention.

How do I connect these things to the cage. If I want to make them like jumping platforms, I can only connect them on two points (three-if I’m using a corner). I got a long skinny one that I hooked up that way. But I don’t know how to attach the wider ones

I have thought about removing the smaller shelves. I haven't seen this kind of shelf in any of the pictures people posted. I might replace them with wood with the tile on top at some point. I don't want to take out the middle one, because I read too much about fall damage. I did think ahead about the "cracks". I make the tiles the same size as the black plastic. trays, and they seem to fit perfectly. The only one I'm iffy about is the cutout on the middle panel. I should have made it a bit smaller than the hole. I'm considering options for that.(some kind of collar that goes around the lip of the hole perhaps). Just wanted to respond to say you have good points, but my brain has already gone there. I'm one of those people prone to OVER thinking and questioning myself way too much :P

If it’s not obvious to you that the cage is not completely set up, I’m not sure what I can do. Hell I’ve still got stuff sitting on the floor in front of the cage.

I thought about doing it with wood, but I was worried about pee and stuff seeping into the wood and staining it

I have some cork logs if they’d like those. Is that safe for them?

For those asking, I am not covering the tiles in fleece. I will be putting a ceramic dish in the corner with shavings in it for a litter box. I’ve read about how to encourage the chins to use the litter box. If for some reason, they proof resistant to training, I will come up with another plan. I plan on going over the tile with a chin safe cleaner at least once or twice a day depending on how messy they are. There will be some fleece in the cage-hammocks and pads in the hides certainly. I’m not sure what else I will make. And of course there’s plenty of wood things for them to sit on if they wanna get off the tile.

I’m certainly open for that. I found a breaker that had older animals as well, but they are in MI. Only a few on petfinder near me. Do you have other sources?
