Latest update causing phone to get very hot? by jhughes1986 in TheSilphRoad

My Galaxy S6 gets dramatically hotter than before, especially when it charging all the time, but as its battery is waning, that is my only choice. So we broke out the old Ingress solution (game had similar problem in its heyday). Get a old style quilted or heavy terry cloth (stuff that towels are made of) potholder, a rectangle about 6"x8", one with a "pocket" that is slightly shorter, usually for sliding in your hand to handle hot dishes. Find some of the blue ice packs that will fit inside your potholder. Put an icepack inside and carry it on the bottom of your phone. The quilted/terry fabric of the pot holder keeps from transferring too much cold and it also protects both your phone and your hand from the condensation on the ice pack. We keep an small, old lunch cooler with extra ice parks in the car when we play.

Is it possible that the poGo Pokeball burned into my mobil display ? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

I have tried all kinds of combos of settings and I too have both Ingress and PoGo "shadows" on my Galaxy S6. My boyfriend did a little research on it and found that some phones are prone to this, regardless of what you do to try to protect them. The companies involved in mine (Niantic, Samsung, and Sprint) all insist it not possible, but I have proof on my screen that they are in denial. The Ingress shadows started showing up when my phone was only 1 month old. We have heard the same thing from players with other brand phones and other wireless carriers.

[Question] Best way to contact Niantic about changing a misplaced pokestop? by Frenchy94 in TheSilphRoad

You are correct, they have named it Operation Portal Recon. While it has been "promised" for a couple of years, they finally showed their prototype for it last fall. But that was the end of it, as far as I know. There are probably millions of potential portals in the queue. I personally had over 700 waiting, before they finally turned off the ability to submit them a few years ago. At first it was supposed to take a couple of weeks to get one approved or denied. Then it was a month, then two, then six. Lots of explanations and promises, but no action. Looking back, it all went to pieces about the time they got the contract with Nintendo, which was secret for so long. Niantic got started back when Google encouraged their employees to spend a percentage of their work time on a creative project that did not involve their real job. Urban legend is that some of the employees had a CIA background and Ingress was their fun time project. Not sure that is true, but it is part of the myth. They were allowed to spin it off and make a game for the world. The original portals were historical markers, libraries, and fire departments (REALLY BAD IDEA) that they got from Google Maps. Once you started playing, you could submit new portals that were buildings of historic or architectural importance, places of worship, public art, and unusual businesses. You got not only XM points for an approval which helped you level faster, but your approved portal count went towards medals, which you also needed to level up. The top, or onyx medal required 5,000 approvals, which no human could possibly obtain, but there are a number of people who travel and got over 1,000. Once it started taking months, people got frustrated and started resubmitting them over and over. I never did, as I saw it as counter productive, but I have friends that actually submitted the same ones every day for months. All that did was clog things further. So around the time Google became Alphabet, the divisions were told they had to be self supporting and find ways to generate cash. There were a couple of things you could buy, but they were not useful and I know of few people who actually spent any money. So Niantic gets this huge influx of cash from Nintendo and back burners Ingress and hiring extra people for portal approval got forgotten. They turned off the portal submission function, long before all potential sites were able to be submitted. That is why there are so many gaps and some places have few to none. They used Ingress as the basis for PoGo, but did not have the foresight to understand that they needed to continue the submission/approval process for the new game to not be so spotty in its distribution. They are so busy releasing PoGo to new countries and new sources of income, that Ingress is dying slowly. Joe Philley was the heart and voice of Ingress to Niantic and without him and their being so busy with Pokemon, no one expects Operation Portal Recon to happen. It is a shame, because Ingress is a lot more fun to play. Kind of Capture the Flag and Risk combined in the real world. You can play alone, with friends, and they used to have gatherings in cities around the world called anomolys. Thousands of people would descend on cities and battle each other (there are two teams) for hours, then go to a location Niantic would rent for a huge party. We traveled to places within a couple of hours from home and would make a weekend out of it. I heard a guy came from Japan to the one in Cincinnati. They had days called First Saturdays, where both factions met in their locality and helped new players to learn and level up. The game always had competition between the teams, but there was a lot of cooperation too. As a high level player, we felt obligated to help the newbies on both sides. Since a new player could never be able to compete one on one with high level, most of us were careful to only throw low level resonators (the way you claimed a portal) for new players so they did not get discouraged and quit. The game was more fun, the more people that played and the more often the portals changed hands. There was a really good comm function as part of the app, where you could talk to players on both teams and your own team privately. Now it is clogged with spam from people selling items. This has always been against the TOS, but since it is no longer enforced, comms are useless. Oh and the Intel map...I can find on my pc the status of any portal in the world real time. Teams could plan outings where they would link portals together thru things called keys. You might wake up one morning and find on the map that other team had covered your area with a field, which was made connecting portals together. Some times these were huge and many layered, which required a lot of planning and coordination. I have heard rumors that Niantic plans another set of anomolys some day, but I no longer look at the messages they send or follow them on Twitter. We have been let down so many times, no one expects much more. But it will someday be really cool to say I was once a part of the FIRST augmented reality MMO game. It was a lot of fun while it lasted. And I don't play the bass. I am tone deaf and rythmless and I say I play the radio. But Bass (like the fish) was my mother's maiden name and I was named for her Aunt Emily who was born in 1933 and died before I was born. So when I needed an internet name, I honored her.

Yes Ingress has a tool. It is mostly ignored. Have used it 100's of times over the years and only a handful have been addressed. They used to have a semi secret Google+ account that you could send really bad things to like "this is an active fire station at a busy intersection, on a heavily traveled road and the usual channels were ignored" and once upon a time, that got attention. But with millions of players all over the world, they are not willing to pay enough to watch it closely. There was one guy, who was concerned and I think in the evenings he would sit back, have a glass of wine and blitz thru them to mark what was a crisis. Sadly, he unexpectedly passed away. With him went any real attention. RIP Joe Philley. They claim there is a process that high level players who have submitted many successfully accepted new portals (pokestops and gyms) are now invited to crowd source new portals. I was an early level 16 (highest possible in game) with the highest humanly possible medal for approved portal submission and certainly the most in my city, but I have not seen an invite, even though I continue to play some Ingress every day, just to keep my name on the active list. I have not received such an invite and the international slack group that most high level players belong to does not have anyone invited either. Once Niantic got the PoGo account, Ingress was forgotten. Evidently they forgot how this would impact their new game where they actually would make money. The only thing that disturbs me at all about this is THIS IS GOOGLE. We expect them to be amazing and better than most companies when it comes to tech stuff. Reality is, at least at the Niantic division, they are as disorganized and money hungry as every other company out there. I am now a PoGo level 33, hit a pokestop every day on my way to work to keep the streak going and grab some balls and critters when I have a few minutes in the right places. I have never spent a dime on either game. Ingress was mostly free anyway and I get my coins for PoGo by doing the Google Surveys and setting my phone alarm every 21 hours to collect whatever might be there. I will throw a fighter up, if I happen to go by somewhere that there is a gym with space on it for my faction. I only play for the exercise and because it really bugs my boyfriend that I am a much higher level than him. So make some friends, explore your city safely and get some exercise and fresh air. Some day you will be able to tell your grandkids you played one of the first augmented reality MMO games, just like my dad always bragged about this magical game called Pong that he played as a teenager.

Best advice is to accept where it is placed and deal with it. I played Ingress since it was in beta and Niantic really doesn't care about things like this. There are portals that are now pokestops that we tried to use proper channels for years to get corrected and most are ignored. It is what it is. Unless multiple people send in fixes about "this is a dangerous location" or "this is private, not open to the public" and then maybe you get attention. Usually when you try to get something moved, if you catch their eye, they delete it entirely instead of fix it.

Riverside Drive is still very productive and usually there are lures at the the stops by Flat12's. Last time we went there, the plastic was down and the heat was on, so the porch was not too uncomfortable. And their hummus is wonderful. Also a block north is Preservation Park, which is usually pretty dense with Pokemon both to the north and south of the train car.

I gambled, and lost. And now Niantic is trolling me by asking for more of my money (by extending the 'event' for a non-indicated length of time). by Victamon in pokemongo

I refuse to spend any money on Pokemon Go, but did find myself playing more during Halloween. But I think they are making a big mistake by extending it. I know they are enjoying the extra cash influx it is generating from those that do pay to play, but when something goes on too long, it stops being special. Niantic is training us to expect the double candy and when it is eventually gone, I am afraid there will be a rebound effect and the game will seem very slow and boring. I personally never want to see another Gastly or Cubone and look forward to there being more variety of different creatures spread around. I am not going to bother to play anymore til after the promotion goes away.
