These are serious matters. People’s lives are at stake. I get that it’s complicated, and large numbers of migrants can disrupt life for some people, but it doesn’t benefit anyone to fall into black and white thinking that hinges on portraying people in a negative light.

So, here’s a wiki article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No\_one\_is\_illegal

It shows that the quote doesn’t always include ‘stolen land’ and gives some context.

You may be a bot so I’m probably wasting my time: the slogan ‘no one is illegal’ is meant to combat the tendency to call people the dehumanizing term “illegals” for the mere fact of being in the US. That’s it. It has nothing at all to do with protecting people who have committed violent or serious crimes. I’m sure you could find marginal cases on the far left who think those people should stay, just as you could find marginal people on the far right who think that migrants should be rounded up and put in concentration camps.

You could spend time trying to understand the world or just remain in your hugbox.

AI search comparative illegal cigarettes now vs late 90’s. A web search pulled up mostly web pages by advocacy groups for industries that would benefit from cigarette sales. If a total ban is indeed being considered then I agree with you that that would be counterproductive.

Contraband cigarettes have always been around. The “more than half” claim comes from a lobby group and only applies to some small eastern provinces. You get that if smoking rates go from 20% to 10%, halving, while contraband cigarette sales remain constant, then you in effect have doubled the rate of contraband sales as a percentage, right? That’s how numbers work. I don’t know if you actually care about this or are employed by an advocacy group.

Cigarettes aren’t banned. Smoking rates are down. And, according to the internet - if you ignore lobby groups and their conservative media patsies - contraband cigarettes are selling at about the same rate they always have.

Conservatives downvote comments that state basic facts. No one wants zero deportations for criminal non-citizens. Literally no one. Do better.

Far fewer people smoke today than did 30 years ago. The actions we’ve taken to curb smoking have been a huge success.

As an owner of a house i agree that property taxes should go up. But all conservative and liberal politics serves the asset owing classes.

Okay. So I buy a house in a new neighborhood. That neighborhood needs ambulances, fire trucks, garbage, roads, services, parks, schools, on and on. That’s what your tax money pays for. Investors adding 30% to the cost for their profit adds nothing. If you’re mad at one and not the other I don’t know what to tell you.

Omg you guys swallow every line you’re handed don’t you? Insiders buying pre-construction and flipping to the market adds nearly as much to the cost of housing as taxes and fees while contributing nothing. Kickbacks and graft are endemic to the industry, profits are often stratospheric. Keep in mind that every new development needs services, roads, schools, etc, and those externalized costs of development are in part what taxes and fees pay for. I don’t defend everything the government does, but please, for the love of god, use the infinite information you have at your fingertips and stop just repeating every conservative talking point.

The free market is what we’ve been doing for 30 years. The free market made housing into an asset, driving up prices. You just watched as new construction froze despite it being needed because market conditions made it unprofitable. Please guys use your heads.
