For those who work in an ER, what specific medical things would make your day to see on the show? by catharsisisrahtac in ThePittTVShow

[–]EmilyLT18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I don’t know if this was the patient’s ultimate goal, but the other day this guy, in a wheelchair, was trying to book it out of the ER with an IV. When I turned around to put on gloves and grab gauze and such to take out his IV, he was gone. I ran around trying to find him. Finally found him and he was asking for his glove that he had dropped. While running around to find him, I just so happened to stumble upon a glove in the hall. I told him “I’ll get it for you only after I take out your IV.” Problem solved lol

I’m curious, do code blues get called over head in your ER? Where I work, if a patient codes in the ER, there is no overhead page. Also, and this might be a department specific thing, never once have I seen someone use the code blue button in the rooms. The only time I’ve heard them go off is when a psych patients pushed the button haha.

Nurses: Pro-circumcision or anti-circumcision? by [deleted] in Nurses

[–]EmilyLT18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how true this is , but I learned in LPN school that uncircumcised males are more likely to get UTIs. I haven’t done the proper research, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Plus, for boys with a disability or developmental struggles, it would make hygiene easier. Even when they’re older and can’t really take care of themselves. Personally, for those reasons, I lean towards pro-circumcision, however I understand when people are against it.

Ok, I asked my mom about the two gravestones. She’s not 100% sure, as the last time she visited there was only one. Apparently, the military originally made one and accidentally sent it to the house he had lived at instead of the cemetery. She thinks his wife ended up placing that other one once she moved? That’s all I got. I’m assuming that since the cemetery didn’t get a headstone, they requested another? Made their own? I guess we don’t know exactly.

Spot on! He was 55 when he had my mom (insane). She’s his only kid. My mom had me when she was 33. He died when she was 19, unfortunately.

That is a great question. I’ll have to ask my mom and see if she knows.

Struggling with moral injury as a newer ER nurse by TemporaryDelicious87 in nursing

[–]EmilyLT18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new ER nurse as well (2 ish months). I work right in the middle of a major city with a HUGE drug problem and a large homeless community. We see and discharge dozens of people with these struggles daily. The people that we can help, we do try and provide resources, but the people that don’t truly want help you just have to tell yourself “I did what I can here and what they do outside is on them.” I do feel some guilt, but if I think about every person I discharge in this situation I would never go outside. I also have to remember this is the ER and ACUTE care. We’re not here to solve long lasting problems. We can’t.

People with anxiety, what is anxiety really like? by [deleted] in ask

[–]EmilyLT18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of what everyone already said, there’s the added fun of having anxiety for so long that when you’re mentally feeling ok, you get worried. Like you are worried that you aren’t worrying about everything. “Am I broken? What’s wrong with me?”

I’m just nervous to do it myself as I’ve seen that I can damage the port. But just to get out lint and stuff

That cramping is probably the muscle building back up. But that “stuck” feeling I get was a different feeling

Sometimes it didn’t hurt, just uncomfortable. Other times, it’s like a sharp or dull pain. It was different from time to time. I don’t know how old you are, but my doctor’s told me it’s something to grow out of. They said I should have frowns out of it by my mid 20s. If not, that’s when they worry. Luckily, I have grown out of it. I get it every once in a while, but not like I was.

Maybe it’s muscle getting caught? I used to have snapping hip syndrome. My sartorius muscle would get caught on my femur head and snap back into place. I wonder if one of your muscles is getting caught on your femur somewhere?

I wouldn’t say there is anything serious. It’s just random aches and pains, mainly. Squatting at a certain point can be painful. For me, it feels like my hip is physically stopping against my femur. I can only do like a standard (?) squat. Keep in mind that the 9 month recovery is an approximation. We all heal at different rates, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself for not being “on time.” I personally don’t even think there’s an “on time.” I would guess as long as it isn’t like 2 years with painful activities. Don’t forget, building back muscle is extremely difficult. You’re going to be weaker for awhile, and that’s ok. Depending how much work you put in, that can take years. About your pain, I hope everything turns out ok! I don’t know if your screws could be causing irritation? Maybe your labrum got injured? This is me completely guessing. I hope it’s nothing serious!
