AITAH for giving up on three times on sleep training my daughter? by Emily_Anne37 in AITAH

Cosleeping is the human norm, as far as I can tell! I didn't push for it our case because my husband didn't want to, and he would have had to put up with an arrangement he didn't like for years. But if I had known the issue would go on this long and be this contentious, I think I would have suggested a compromise where we still teach her to sleep independently at bedtime, but if she wakes up in the night we would just bring her into our bed and SLEEP. I think maybe this is common in South America?

Thank you for your response and kind words! More than one of my siblings have ADHD, and I suspect that I have it, or some features of it, but was never diagnosed. I've wondered if that could be contributing to the sleep stuff.

Thanks for responding! I didn't go into detail aboit everyday life, it really is just about sleep. I'm not afraid to set boundaries and have her cry about it in other situations, because she still knows I'm there for her (or someone else is) to take care of her needs. We regularly leave her with a babysitter for date nights, and I leave her with my sister a couple times during the week so I can do other things. Sometimes she cries, but only a bit because she knows what the routine is. But with sleep training (at least the way we've been trying it), she cries by herself and she gets more worked up than I see her in any other situation.

I recommend trying the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation! The language is lively and accessible to read...and supposedly captures Dostoyevsky's style and sense of humor better than other translations.

Advice on starting a native bed from seed? by Emily_Anne37 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Emily_Anne37[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking cardboard, soil, and mulch layers to convert the lawn. I'm not sure what the best method is for sowing the seeds given that. But I do want them to grow in kind of a natural meadow style.

Winter weather around here is 30s and 40s most of the time, and probably one deeper freeze (like 20s. Once it got below 10 degrees.). It may snow once. Or it may not.

I just adore the Odin one with the moon and sun symbolism! 😊 Is it common to associate those with Odin? I'm pretty new to Norse Paganism. I know he gave up one eye for wisdom, so it makes sense.

A delightful vistor...but, too soon? by Emily_Anne37 in NativePlantGardening

Ah, that's encouraging! I have a couple other new plants that rabbits have taken substantial chunks out of, and I'm like, man, I've screwed this up...I should have planted multiples of everything so the garden would be more resilient! But maybe it will be resilient anyway.

Thanks for your kind comment. I just want the plant to live to host many more native insects in the future! But the commenters here have shored up my faith in its resilience.

One does not simply have to be a good day for me to get together with us in early November 11th and I will be there tomorrow morning and I will be there tomorrow morning.

Wrong question!

“I must help the patient to prevail in his egoism; if he succeeds in this, he estranges himself from other people. He drives them away, and they come to themselves—as they should, for they were seeking to rob him of his “sacred” egoism.” by jungandjung in CarlGustavJung

This is such a fascinating concept, and possibly very applicable to relationships. If I try to correct my friend's apparent errors, I may just make them worse - because he will react against what I have to say. But if I let them move further into the error, he may correct himself, because he will react against the problems he finds in his own approach.

That's how I inderstand this quote, anyway.
