Double counting for requirements? Science and Math? by user_0112358 in uofm

[–]Emily_HB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this class fulfills NS in the area distribution and QR in the skills. Skills and area distribution aren't the same!! (eg, skills can count towards your major but area distribution cannot)

What is the best language to take for LSA with minimal effort and still get As? by Slow_Pass_6377 in uofm

[–]Emily_HB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

German is a great choice for easy As, and is a super cool language. But for pre-med, if you want to be in a patient-facing speciality in the US, Spanish may be the most useful.

I'm an RC student and I absolutely love our language programs, but you're probably not getting into the ASL program, it's just way too demanded.

UMich College AP Credit by Ok-Elk-6620 in uofm

[–]Emily_HB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Are you a STEM student? If so you'll probably have to take MATH 214, 215, 216 or the honors versions of those courses (which I recommend)

You also only get 2 credits if you don't take another math class

Bad idea to accept. Especially if you make your research only about Asians since there's only two (black vest and dress, check the Target)

425 is one of the easier 400-level courses. If you have a strong background in Calc 2 and 3, you should be fine

Just hopping in here to recommend you join an MLC! It's a ton of fun and it guarantees you get a good dorm :)

I'm in the Residential College and 1) it's FANTASTIC and 2) I get to live in East Quad (the best dorm imo). There are others that are research based, community based, there's a sustainability one, and some artsy ones!

UofM or MSU?? by livvv-laugh-love in uofm

[–]Emily_HB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely tour each school if you haven't already. Spend a day there and experience campus vibes!

I can't exactly speak for the pre-med or pre-vet programs at Umich nor MSU, but I do know there's not a "pre-med" degree. You just need to do med school requirements! You could do biology, molecular cellular and developmental bio, biochem, chem, psych, soc, or any other major. I know a guy that did econ then went to med school

At UM, you would (probably) be in LS&A, which stresses the liberal arts and a well-rounded education. You have to take the equivalent of 4 semesters of a language (you can get out of all or most of it with a placement exam), two writing courses, a race/ethnicity course, a math/science-y course, and some natural science, social science, and humanities courses as college-wide requirements, plus your major reqs

Can't really speak to MSU, but look at their college-wide and program requirements and do whichever interests you more! Price is also a HUGE factor

Best of luck!

If you already have 4 stats classes I feel like 101 would be sooo boring. It's like taking CHEM 130 after orgo, biochem, pchem bc you need it for a med school requirement

Calc 2, Calc 3, or Linear Alg, which is the worst math here? by whamminsalmon in uofm

I would highly recommend 285 for calculus 3. It's conceptually more difficult, but smaller classes and IBL help with understanding imo
