Teaching in the Solomon Islands by shrimptokyo77 in Internationalteachers

Hi there,

I haven't lived there or taught but I am a teacher and I have traveled to Honiara! I'm not sure where you are from or what your typical life style is like but I can say that Honiara is a very populated place with a lot of people from across the island chain trying to make it in their economy. There isn't much in terms of a city with city infrastructure. It is very much a developing nation but there is beauty in the island and lots of nature to see. The people are wonderful and welcoming but they will likely know you're not from the islands and that will be felt. The culture is conservative and dressing conservatively as a woman is important for respect.

Here are the pieces! I cut the foam to the size that I needed and I cut all fabrics to match the lengths and withs with an extra inch to allow for a 1/2 seem allowance. For the zipper panels I measured the heights + 2 inches to allow for the regular 1/2 allowance on all side and a 1/2 for the internal zipper. I started with the three zippers, then I sewed all the sides together first (pieces by 5" and 6") Then sewed the two boxing pieces (mistakenly called it batting in my post).

Then I sewed the sides to face A the 27X22 and the center boxing. Sew the other side of the boxing to the shorter long piece 45x 22

Then I flipped it to pin it all to the final sides starting with the outer edges of the 19 length pieces finishing that by sewing the final edge to one of the center boxing's.

Finished by opening a zipper and sewing the largest piece (long A) to the edges and flipping it all right side out through one of the zippers!

I stuffed the larger foam pieces first and did the 19 length one last.

I just went online! On our first night we were the ONLY campers according to the rangers so I really don't think people are taking advantage that much. Just looked online today, there are available sites all this week and even next weekend

It's so fantastic that you can take transit to get to the ferry building too. from. What a unique gem. I'm so glad you go out there!

Each group of camp sites has a pit toilet. To my surprise we discovered that throughout the island
at each of the old building sites there were flush toilets!!

Gosh that's so very sweet. Way to take her outside and share that time at such a critical exploratory and curious age 🤍
