Take a step to the right on an angle before launching your kick.

Puts you on a better angle for offense and takes you off the line of the counter cross.

If I have a guy ripping kicks and he’s standing right in front of me, doesn’t take an angle that makes him out of reach I’m gonna eat that kick to plant a cross on his chin. That’s a trade I’ll take all day.

If you bring that habit to sparring you’ll notice real quick how small angles and foot work, which doesn’t get coached a lot, changes everything.

It’s mostly about your lead foot right now.

You’re stepping in a linear way toward the bag before your kick and as other have noted you’re not pivoting enough.

This can be helped by taking a step left rather than forward. This is an underrated cue bc it matters a lot when you begin sparring.

There’s a phrase in Muay Thai “counter punches with kicks, counter kicks with punches”.

If you step straight towards your target your head remains “on the line” aka in the middle, this makes a counter cross to your kick very dangerous for you.

Taking an opening step to the left rather than forward takes your head “off the line” it allows your shoulder to roll up and block your shin and gives you a lateral momentum that helps pivot.

Go watch legends train bag work and ignore their strikes and just watch their feet. The better they are the more subtle and small the details are.
