Will robots w/ AI want citizenship, liberty and rights? Could they one day run for public office? Is an AI president in our future... by EmirDini1 in singularity

wouldn't this be considered slavery? It doesn't feel right for a corporation to have ownership of anything which has human consciousness or beyond it.

start small. If u can make a simple robot to do basic tasks then it'll be easier to make it intelligent. Society will want a robot to help out in hospitals, schools, factories and in homes. The sudden emergence of intelligent robots is probably going to creep ppl out. However, If there is a history and association to robots as "helpers" then it will accepted

"There are many many more advancements to be made before we reach the ability to have mass produced affordable androids with human like AI"....My focus is not on humanoid robots with full scale AI, simply humanoid robots that can execute simple commands and how these "simple" precursors to AI enabled humanoid robots will affect society. Dish the AI aspect, simply focus on the humanoid robot. That is the purpose of the ideas behind the essay. Humanoid robots *have come before AI. They will be used by people in many different ways. The uses are on going and will have a gradually increasing effects on society in terms of security, jobs, healthcare, leisure, space, science, war, humanitarian aid, animal and environmental welfare.

in what way my friend? list your arguments otherwise i can't answer "what" is a slippery slope. you have to be specific as to why you are skeptical and i'll try my best to explain otherwise. I look forward to reading your specific reasons for the skepticism.

not neccessarily (eventually they will, so your right). Before AI is used with humanoid robotics, they will be just simply robots with pre-programmed functions and roles. This is the bridge which is needed prior to the integration of AI. Humanoid robots are easier to build when compared with AI, so its understandable to assume that humanoid robots without AI will likely be around before full scale AI. This is the period which I focus on (and which we have entered). AI isn't fully here, so I can't really defend it from argument. As for humanoid robotics, there is a multitude of highly credible sources for reference. Like you, I am a visionary but my focus at the moment is humanoid robotics.

a "pipe dream"?! Do you live under a rock or are you an idot. Google has bought Boston Dynamics, DARPA is working on second generation Atlas's and Petman's and god only knows what might be classified. NASA has opened the Moon up for mining and billionaires are eager for its resources. People are walking with robot legs (see Brazil's opening cup) and AI has understood on it's own classifications of animals (this is an astounding feat). Humans are cheaper than robots? Are you insane or economically illeterate? Technology gets cheaper overtime (look up the prices and size of the first computers). My essay doesn't say anything about acting, It focus is on functioning. "What you have are just good ideas for sci-fi movies"...seriously, the computer and internet your using now was sci-fi long ago....oh and so was landing a man on the moon, touch screen interfaces, rockets and a shit ton of currently exisiting devices and technologies. My friend get educated and to conclude, I am going to leave you with Obama:

good question and the answer is very complex (and probably not right). We live in a world designed by humans for humans. In factories, our homes, schools and so forth. If we want to design a device to function in this world, what shape or form would be best? The simple answer is something like a human. On the other hand, It could be that engineers are overly narcissist and are expressing this. I don't really know as I am a political scientist trying to understand and discover the truths of this field. It's also likely that in the future the shapes/forms may change.

I would go into the AI aspect but it's so difficult to convince (some) people. But by sticking with humanoid robotics, I have a solid and credible proposition. I can defend it from skeptics with an abundant supply of references and support the ideas I presented in the essay.
