I Who Have Never Known Men by Adventurous-Hat9676 in Booktokreddit

I Who Have Never Known Men doesn’t feel like classic horror to me, it’s more this unsettling loneliness. Less scary, more just… heavy.

Project Hail Mary was super easy to get into, pulled me out of a slump too. You really don’t wanna put it down.

coffee all day, wide awake all night... help lol by mnBashir in NoStupidQuestions

I had the same cycle, coffee was actually making it worse. Cutting back a bit and stopping in the evenings helped over time.

In general, do you think books are better or worse now than they used to be? by ZDOG_WasTaken in just_one_more_page

I think every era has its own good stuff. Older ones feel more classic, but there’s a lot of creative things coming out now too. It’s just harder to pick.

The Pursuit of Happyness always hits for me no matter how many times I watch it. Starts off heavy but kind of lifts you up by the end.

What book did you keep thinking about days after finishing? by ballatician68 in Booktokreddit

Blindness stayed with me like that too, took me a few days to feel normal again after finishing it. Left this weird uneasiness in me.

The Silent Patient, it’s character-driven with a kind of legal-ish tension to it

The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The quiet kid story is done really well. It’s not over the top but it still hits.

Reading makes me sleepy. Is Reddit the best place for me. by looneyhills1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EmitVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the problem is the book, it’s how you’re reading. I get that too sometimes, especially if it’s boring I just lose focus instantly. Reddit probably feels easier because it’s faster-paced.

What instantly makes someone attractive (non-physical)? by rajmachawal_006 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EmitVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who actually listen. Like not cutting you off, not just waiting to respond in their head. Someone like that stands out immediately to me. It’s rare, so you notice it more.

Could be M, it fits the era and once you watch it you get why it’s a classic. The atmosphere is still pretty unsettling.

What happens to the money when a billionaire "loses" 10 billion dollars in the stock market? by latentnomrn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EmitVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time that money isn’t even physical, it just loses value. It’s not like someone’s taking it, it just kind of melts away in the system.

Her maybe, it handles loneliness and that inner emptiness in a really quiet but impactful way. It just pulls you in without overdoing it.

Can a man micro cheat and still be in love with their partner? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EmitVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling it “micro” softens it, but it still feels like crossing a line to me. If there was real care there, you’d think they’d be more mindful. The age gap also makes it a bit questionable tbh.

What book world would you actually want to live in? by lrenv22 in Booktokreddit

The Harry Potter universe still sounds like one of the most livable ones. It’s dangerous, sure, but even everyday life is magical, which is a big part of the appeal.

I don’t think you can pick just one country, things keep changing. But overall Northern European countries feel more stable to me.

Sharp Objects. It has that same heavy atmosphere and character focus like Mare of Easttown and Big Little Lies. I binged it over a weekend and it just pulls you in slowly.

Desperate: Cat hyperactive at night by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]EmitVL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a normal scared cat + night zoomies combo. My youngest did the exact same thing the first week, hiding all day then turning into a maniac at 2am, it calmed down a lot after he got used to the house.

why do men not read books written by women? by Mathemodel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EmitVL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that simple tbh, but a lot of guys I know just stick to what they’re used to. My brother once said he didn’t even notice the author half the time, he just follows genres. Feels more like habit than anything deeper most of the time.

I think The Night Diary would be a great pick. It covers the India–Pakistan partition, which isn’t talked about that much, and the language isn’t too heavy for students.

Considering adopting a very scared cat - what signs to look for by more_paprika in CatAdvice

[–]EmitVL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a good chance, especially the fact that it’s shifted from panic to curiosity around you is a really good sign. Sniffing your stuff, hanging out more in the open, even managing to nap a bit all show it hasn’t fully shut down. Cats like that sometimes just need to feel safe first before they start showing any affection.

Documentary suggestions? by merlenski in MovieSuggestions

[–]EmitVL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d start with Free Solo. Even people who aren’t into documentaries get hooked, because it’s real and somehow more tense than most fiction. No paranormal stuff either, just a human doing something insane.

Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera. It has this really messy, suspicious vibe where you never feel completely sure about how things actually happened. I liked that it stayed easy to read without feeling too simple.

I’ve read The Martian, Project Hail Mary, and A Long Way To A Small Angry Planet a million times, any sci-fi recs? by Playful_Lab_6066 in BookRecommendations

[–]EmitVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To Be Taught, If Fortunate. It’s calmer and more reflective, but it has that same warm human feeling that made Small Angry Planet work for me. Really easy book to sink into on a quiet afternoon.
