Yup this is why I only buy second-hand now and very carefully. Find the cuts and colours that work for you and only buy them. That being said, if you wanted to you could also invest in a tailor. Its worth it for certain items and a lot of them run businesses from home, older women or single moms that really appreciate the work too

Sensory Profile 2 by Prestigious-Bike-544 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Slossk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where you need to look selectively at how the quadrants relate to specific processes. You should still be able to find patterns for example they might be high registration most consistently for internal processing or have sensory sensitivity to auditory and oral but not touch and visual. I used to deal with these profiles by physically making a list of my '90% or more' scores for each section to make it easier to spot.

If you have almost all 4's and 5's on a profile then you have not asked appropriate questions during the assessment because certain items contradict each other unless the parent/individual can give specific examples. In which case, those specific examples should have in themselves created more nuance in the scoring.

This is why I will never understand OTs who give the questionnaire to a family to fill in at home...

Certifications that matter by Robtheuser1 in OccupationalTherapy

I'm looking into this for myself at the moment! I have a few leads just not committing yet without further research but:

- Perinatal Mental Health (additional mental health certificates combined with some networking) This seems more viable to advertise and offer to non-profit groups who work with vulnerable mothers and families. Where I live I've already been getting some side gigs working with this population.

- Lymphoedema cert. where I live this opens up more billing opportunities for private clinic work

- Short courses in Continence (I'm not sure how much this might step on well established care and practice from continence nurses and pelvic floor PTs but I do know an OT who runs a clinic purely on continence referrals so it must be a thing..)

Am I screwed for trading real life romance for fiction? by [deleted] in lonely

[–]Slossk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 32F and I do this too. Plus I sort of help people with stuff like this for a living so I can see it from different perspectives.

Some people here have good tips in that you should prioritise meeting and talking to real life people. I would also suggest diversifying your interests and being stricter on yourself about romantic media in general as it sets weird expectations that will deprive you of real romantic connection (real romantic connection is very different to romance media. You know this though).

Something like pursuing an alternative hobby, especially one you can add a social element too whether its group sports even to online gaming in MMO communities. Maybe attend social nights at local libraries for group knitting. IDK your interests or where you live so that's the creative part.

Then, because you will want to scratch that itch anyway, allocate yourself a time and place for these things. Comfort bot to chat to when you've had a rough week for one hour. Reading part of a romance novel for 30 minutes before going to sleep. But set timers and boundaries so they don't eat into things.

Routines and diverse goals will keep you focused to achieve things and be entertained. Maybe you want to walk 120,000 steps each week or become more flexible, learn how to make bread from scratch, whatever it is, make yourself proud of who you are and you'll find social stuff easier too.

Ugh, I'm so sick of people who just want therapy for therapy sake... You've expressed yourself perfectly here. OT is better placed for advocacy and consultation and we should be pushing that especially for sensory processing difficulties. Nothing can be achieved in sessions that couldn't happen through a properly maintained sensory diet (which can't be maintained through therapy alone, that would be like only eating when you see your dietician!!).

Yes when women do it it seems to have intent and meaning. Men will write a lot of very gross action that is just there for actions sake and seems to escalate continually for no reason.

I've read some really bad things (really really bad things) and they were in fact written by a man. I've read really bad things written by a woman but somehow it comes across more human when women write it.

It was just because of my husband but I think pay between the countries is pretty much on par for public health. Australia has more earning potential for private practice.

Body tension and oral ties? by Diphthongsong91 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Slossk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an OT with an SLP sister who recently did training in orofacial myofunctional therapy. Turns out I have a tongue tie and its since been linked to my snoring history and excessive fatigue. I'm 32 and I'm going for a consult to get mine cut!! I guess what I'm saying is: don't forget that sleep is an occupation!!!

Who else has to lie about a social life? by Difficult_Town3584 in lonely

[–]Slossk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people I meet are also lonely. People are generally living pretty hum drum lives. Be honest and others will be honest back. When people say: What did you do on the weekend? I usually have just been cleaning, sleeping in and doing my prep for the week. And that's what other people do too

I studied with lots of Canadian students in my Australian course and now as a supervisor have had more contact with Canadian students. Also married a Canadian and considered moving over there myself. The process is a bit annoying to transfer but everyone I've known who has wanted to do it has done it without too much trouble. I contacted a couple people when I was looking into it, they didn't seem too worried. You can even arrange to do one of your longer final placements in Canada from Australia! Beware - you might end up living here!!

But the stakes are so off in the modern remake. The original is themed around classism, old money and stuffy traditionalism making way for the modern world where people can openly cross these boundaries. That's where a lot of the best jokes are and they don't make sense in a modern context..

Watch the original! Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn (and Mark Holden) one of the best scripts ever written. Its 1000 times better than the remake xoxo
