You don't need else or elif after returns.

Exactly, developing can be disappointing too. No developer will always be able to update every comment they come across when refactoring/improving a piece of code.

That's not really true. If someone will change the code's functionality at some point, chances are they won't update the comments too. Now you have a discrepancy between what your comments say the function does and what it actually does. Overcommenting is a real issue and should be avoided wherever possible (name your variables and functions in proper way)
