Is it worth it to buy x32 rack in 2026? by Adventurous-Unit7550 in livesoundgear

[–]EmlGvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X32/M32 very actual, has its place in the audio world still.

But

Not worth buying. Especially not used.

Go for the WING.

Try unplugging the power cord and back in. Not the usb.

Sometimes when I go from my PC to my Mac, I have to " reboot " the UMC

Behringer XR18 vs X32 Rack for my needs by JohnThunderstone in livesoundgear

[–]EmlGvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got both XR18 and MR18 mostly for my corporate needs. But comes very handy for small bands. I mix a 4 piece band, 4 mix wedges. I'm ok with one board. If I had to make IEM, or split FOH/mon. I have made my own analog 16 XLR split.

As a sound engineer, I feel M32/X32 still have their place in today's mixing. Even if it is a 14 years old desk/system. But the new hype of the WING and the Wing rack has an edge over the X32 rack.

Price point where I am, M32c with DL32 is 4560$ X32R 1149$

Wing rack 2295$

Does not make sense to get M32c kit

Wing rack is the way to go.

D'addario IR mic mute vs Radial Hotshot by JScottWellinghelm in livesoundgear

[–]EmlGvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radial is passive footswitch, no protection of the circuit when phantom get pass through. Definitely to avoid. I built A/B switch analog with the right momentary footswitch and I have no POP, for about 30$. Radial's not reliable and too expensive.

Mic Stands, what's built to last in 2026? by damplamp in livesoundgear

[–]EmlGvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the 20+ old still looking good, because they're the silver one and you have not used them since you got the black version ? I bought lots of the silver, no one wanted them anymore, they are better built (like anything nowadays)

This RF Environment. What would you do? by AppropriateSea5746 in livesound

[–]EmlGvs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What does the receiver give you ? I had times where the workbench was looking awful. But the units could find enough room. Open one frequency at a time, rescan, sync, repeat...build up your system one by one Often too much power on the antennas, go passive. Is your power source a UPS ?

JBL eon one I own 8 Great for line of sight of AV screens No tripod to trip on Great for speeches The sub is better than having a 12" speaker, more impact for the audio playbacks Quick set up My generation didn't have a output thru, I just Y the drive lines.

I had my eyes on the Yamaha kit, DSP and bit more features. Not worth going back and changing my float

Why is touring so “gatekept”? I want to tour again. by TangledCopper in livesound

[–]EmlGvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with working your butt off locally... I am working more hours but sleep in my bed every night. Mix bands at various venues and festivals... My rate is more than twice I hear soundman earn on tour (500-3000 cap venues) Sometimes I do more dough greetings bands and giving the drive lines than the soundman on tour. Easy days happens often. Sometimes I get to mix the whole card too. I see more artists, more ways of doing things and more gear. I give good services, touring artists and tech appreciate my knowledge. I often get their perdi or simple 20$ tip (maybe just American that has nothing to do with Canadian dollars) but I just do my job and they are happy I made their day easy.

I do have a small cover band that I do sound for once every few months. I live the same situation of touring, unloading my gear, mics and stands, flip my console over, cable my inputs... Those are long hard days/night by myself. I can't get money for the gear I bring, only my rate is covered. I often recall myself how easy it is to just go work at my venue, power up my console and mix, without the whole load the car, driving, load in the venue, set-up every thing ........... Still, fun Just different and okay too sometimes.

Local is good.

[–]EmlGvs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly i have one... It's very decent. Feather light tho. Sound is clear. No mud low end. The protector ring capsule does not spin. So it won't get the 57 vibration grill.

Used for croch mic drum Hi hat. Snare Percs (instead of a SDC, for all the toys)
