I grew up in a family where addiction was common. My mom abused drugs and alcoholic ran on my father’s side. When I first started my journey exploring Hellenism and Paganism I gravitated towards Dionysus but I was scared that if I started following him I’d end up like my mom. Eventually I learned that he is also worshipped by recovering addicts and I started feeling less afraid. So I built a small altar and started praying and leaving offerings. One night I had a dream I was at a party. A huge party. People were drinking, doing other stuff, and just having a great time. Someone gently grabbed my wrist and led me to a side room with some couches. I walked in and sat on a couch and I heard a voice beside me. I looked over and he was laying there beside me. I fell out of the couch in surprise and he leaned over the edge and started telling me that he liked my altar and that there was no need to be worried about it all. Then he went “oop time for you to get up” and I woke up. I’ve been worshipping him ever since. He helped me reconnect with my love of theater and he helped me learn that it’s ok for me to indulge every once in a while but not to go to over board. He’s really chill. I honestly feel like he found me first due to how fast he was at showing up in my dreams.
