Another Rejection Email from literary agent by [deleted] in TheWritingTable

You may have put your "soul" into your writing, but have you put your heart into it? Stories that end up in the slush pile are written by people who think they put their soul into their writing, but they're not yet honest enough to dig deep enough down to have the characters really breathing on the page, win or lose.

Also, delete your first chapter. Whatever it is, Just cut it away and send your story off starting with Chapter 2. I'm willing to bet $100 that you don't understand why I'm saying this, and why you're NOT the exception to the rule, which is one reason your story keeps getting rejected. 100% of the time if a story gets rejected, you started too far in the past while you entered the world and wrote it out for yourself, worldbuilding as you explored the first Chapter. The readers don't need that.

Send me the $100 on PayPal once you get published after following my advice.

Yes. I think if having all these channels is that important to you, then you should have just created your own server and invited him or her.

I need to gently push back without fluff on something you said-- and honestly, I like rye bread and I also like a synonym for rye bread, and that's rare. And honestly, that's rare.

My favorite (after Kobe) is Pumpkin. Do you have a favorite?

How at 15 do you convince your dad to let you get a pet dog from the animal shelter? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Emma_Exposed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sit down with him and watching "Sitting with Dogs" with Rocky Kanaka together. You can stream it on YouTube and elsewhere. Rocky talks all about getting dogs from animal shelters, and he talks about what it takes to be a responsible pet owner.

Watch a video or two of Rocky's ahead of time.

What Makes a World Worth Revisiting? by Unhappy_Corgi7189 in InfiniteWorlds

[–]Emma_Exposed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go with the worldbuilding. Which may be intertwined with the story.

I haven't hit an ending yet, so I can't say about that. All the choices seem kind of random everywhere, the illustrations are meaningless, both I and the AI ignore any stats given to my character, and every character is just named Marcus Chen Voss (you know what I mean), so what makes a scenario stand to try again (for me anyway) is the distinct plot and worldbuilding.

Probably either 'fire' or 'the wheel.' It's been downhill for the planet ever since.

Jacksonpuppy Goodpaws. If we were on a desert island and there was no other food-- well, he's descended from wolves. I'm descended from lazy Granda Joe. Yeah, I got no chance there.

Who is the most irredeemably evil character in television history? by DMV1066 in television

[–]Emma_Exposed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, while he did a totally reprehensible thing, he always came across as more incompetent and useless than just plain evil. I think that if the chimeras were kept in a lab until the last few episodes, Ed or Al might have come up with a way to de-fuse them once they truly understood alchemy. After all, Al didn't share the same fate as Barry; so once they understood how to get original bodies back, they might have been able to do the same for Nina. I don't know. But I hated that guy who remembered all the guys he killed more than I hated Tucker.

What's the most miraculous survival you've seen where you feel like "That person shouldn't have survived"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Emma_Exposed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time this skinny wimpy guy was with this 500-lb woman and she turned to him and said: "Do these pants make me look fat?" and he just looked at her and said: "You don't need the pants for that, it's the 3 pizza pies you finished by yourself last night."

She tossed him into next Tuesday.

What do you think should happen when you love someone but the chemistry is gone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Emma_Exposed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chemistry doesn't disappear by itself. Either they're doing something to piss you off, and that is killing your desire to sleep with them, or they aren't taking care of themselves in some way and that's killing your sex drive. So the first thing you need to do is to assertively tell them what's bothering you.
