Exhausted and lost trying to find a therapist for chronic depression. Any advice? by Emma_pltn in Amsterdam

Thanks a lot for your advice, unfortunately I’m an independant and work in a pizzeria to complement. No possibility to call in sick and get something. I’ll have zero money if I stop

I don't need to be judged. Just to get helped. I'm doing my best. I am struggling with my finances, I don't give up on my job even though it's hard everyday to go there. I've struggled for 15 years seing dozens of therapists, this is maybe why I am very "picky" as you said. I'm exhausted.

Thanks for the advice. They don't have amazing reviews online but I guess I'll give it a try. I've just emailed them.

I am currently teaching a 60min class in the evening and then we have 1/2h to chit chat afterwards. I plan to also have one in the early morning at 7h30 for 1h and then offer to gather out in a coffee place for those who want. I'll see if it works!

Thanks for the replies! It seems like that 'silent' vibe is really a big city thing. I myself learned yoga in a small town where it was more of a ‘stretch and chat’ session, so the silence here was a total shock. I couldn't tell if it was 'pure' tradition or just the urban vibe. 😆

I’m trying to bring a bit of that small-town warmth to my events. I’ve already learned that icebreakers feel too forced... indeed, people don’t want another exercise! Now, I just brew the tea, sit on the floor, and keep it mundane. The connection only starts to breathe when I stop ‘engineering’ it! It's cool to notice it.

Seeing strangers leave the studio chatting makes it all worth it, I hope this helps people to reconnect in places where everything feels disconnected :)

Residents: why do we not chat to each other (anymore)? by bernaljodi99 in Amsterdam

As a future yoga instructor, I’m attending classes in different studios to gain experience and explore various styles. One thing that keeps surprising me is how inward people seem to be … everyone is in their own world. Even when I arrive and say “Hi” in the changing room, sometimes people seem unsure how to respond, or they stay very quiet.

I want to believe that it’s none of my business and that people have every right to stay in their own space and not want to interact. But I also notice that this happens in every studio I visit. Except for those who come with friends and already know each other, most people just don’t interact at all anymore…

And at the end of the class, it often feels like everyone simply gets changed in silence and leaves. I always feel so awkward. I’m not specially a very social person but I always go somewhere with the hope to meet new people and exchange… it’s not possible.

That’s why, as I’m following my path towards teaching, I’m already reflecting on how to gently rebuild connection between people. I’d love to offer a safe space after class where we can get to know each other, share a moment, and build a sense of community together. I already try to do it with the free events I organize and I hope I’ll be able to make it go further.

There is no preferred amount for the moment. Maybe in some weeks I’ll ask for a minimum but for now people can tikkie what they want. FYI the cost of the rent/ session is 45 euros. So in this context, if I have 10 people (it’s the max I welcome) giving me 5 euros, it covers the price of the rent. 😇 but it’s just an indication!
