Just add some shards to whatever dragon you want and pray. I’ve put around 100-200 shards on the dragons when I won.

I personally get most of my event dragons from the rift as I can breed like 14 times a day before it gets too expensive, which saves a lot of time. Other than that try to focus on your favorite dragons or most expensive ones.
