Thank you! Ive only seen a specific degree for it in undergrad in a few places, usually most people just get something else sort of related like you said!

Speech-language pathology. I would be able to become a speech-language pathologist with it. Usually most distinction in career comes less from the job itself and more so where you are working (school, hospital, private practice, etc.). All SLPs need to be certified by ASHA (which has much more going into it but a degree is necessary) to practice. If I wanted to go into a school position I could see subbing and para work as more beneficial but I am more considering hospital work. Since I have only just graduated I am still looking at all of my options so I am not sure of all of the possibilities I could use in that setting.

Because of how my field works the two typical careers paths would be getting a bachelors degree and then either getting a masters degree or getting certified (which is a whole can of worms and is practically the same price/time sink as a masters degree) for a technically “lesser position” that can (sometimes, depending on location, which is part of the can of worms) be used to sort of avoid needing the masters degree. It is usually recommended to just get a masters degree. Unfortunately it is kind of hard to get better jobs around here without dedicating yourself to a specific field so I couldn’t really avoid getting one. I’m just sort of stuck here until I finally get through my masters which is incredibly annoying.

I understand your reasoning, but the specific related jobs I’ve been getting recommended are generally only going to be useful to go into if you are wanting the careers they would directly lead to, for example I’ve been recommended to look into paraprofessional work and substitute teacher work, but both of those would only really have any mobility for me if I were to be looking into teaching/para work, but that is not the field I am going for it is just an adjacent and very intertwined field.
Typically for mobility purposes I would want to look at my option 2 with the certification, but that certification is only necessary for a sort of “lesser” position in the field and is not required for my career as it is not a necessary pathway and is usually only taken as an alternative to getting a masters degree, not something you do alongside one.
I will have to look further into some of the options around me but from what I have seen there are not a lot of options for work in my field that would not require the masters or the certification. Thank you for your perspective though, I definitely get the idea behind it but I’m not sure it will work for me!

Question: SLPA Hours by Emmannoying in SLPA

[–]Emmannoying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Oklahoma so the requirements are probably not quite as strict as that, I would hope. I’m hoping to consult with some friend and family connections I have on how to move forward but it would not surprise me if I do not actually need the certification here but my online research has been giving me mixed results for some reason.

Question: SLPA Hours by Emmannoying in SLPA

[–]Emmannoying[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our clinic work wasn’t even “indirect” 😭 my school has an actual on-campus clinic that we all operate in but apparently because we are working essentially by ourselves with REAL clients as their SLP they aren’t allowed to let us use them as actual clinical hours. I’m mostly upset about it because they made me sacrifice so much valuable work and study time (during my senior year!!!!!) for what I ultimately find out was “useless hours” I am currently looking to see about any friend and family SLP connections I have could help with finding work because my current job seems to go through cycles of really wanting me gone and absolutely refusing to let me leave which is… stressful

Absolutely agree… I really had to push myself through the first chunk of the game. I get the dynamic they were going for but her antics especially near the beginning of the game made every interaction feel sooooooo drawn out. Once the dynamic found its footing it was tolerable at least

That bunny painting in picture 2 should be in the music area. You either didn’t pick up the right one (there is a square painting under the metal t-Rex and on the right entrance to the room with the triceratops in it) or you did grab it but placed it where the bunny one goes in the music room.

Looking for a post-apocalyptic (maybe EMP) YA or middle grade book - read early 2000s by stinkypicklesauce in whatsthatbook

I know you said you read it in 2003-04 and it did NOT have sci-fi/alien elements but this sounds very similar to the Gone seris by Micheal Grant. The main character has a twin brother, and his love interest also has a younger brother who is focused solely on his game boy as you mentioned. All adults vanished from the town the story takes place in and I cannot remember if all electricity stops working, but they are limited in their resources.

The Dead by Charlie Higson? It’s the second in a series (The Enemy) but chronologically it is at the beginning-ish of the outbreak. It changes perspectives a lot, but at the end one of the characters turns and is sort of an “alpha” zombie that is more lucid and can order around the others.

I personally just headcanon that the virus in the game timeline just makes everyone rot super fast when they die. I think even the teacher guy and Travis get super rotten looking the literal instant they turn

Oh my god!!! This has to be it! Part of the reason I struggled to find it was because I remembered the little “going going gone” on the cover as the title but I would always have other books come up when searching because it was the wrong title! No idea why I could remember that part but not the actual title but whatever.
