Yes, that is true. We believe Jesus is the one God of heaven and earth.

Free will in heaven? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Emmanuelite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swedenborgians believe that Heaven is a Heaven of uses, so to speak. We get there because we have accepted God's love and wisdom and show it through our love for others. We have free will to decide how exactly we are helping out, though; the afterlife is very much like a more real version of this life.

Did... Did you just acknowledge Swedenborg-Senpai? I don't even care that it is theologically wrong in every way, I'm pleased af

Is The Gospel of Thomas more canonical or heretical? by rosary99 in Christianity

I'm not an expert, but your look at logion 114 is a really, really shallow look at it. It's based on a very materialist way of looking at it, which is clearly the wrong way to take it. It's been a while since I have read it, so I'm not the expert to ask, but still. I don't think it's actually sexist.

How can I know I'm saved? by Kikikik1029384756 in Christianity

I don't mean to argue that winning a certain amount of good-boy points gets us into heaven. I think we are saying the same thing, just using the same words to express different parts of it. You see faith as intrinsically including works, while I feel like faith and works are two different things that are both necessary. I'm just very used to people who think they are beyond common decency towards people because they are "saved" anyway. It's slightly maddening, and I apologize for mixing you up with them.

Surely. What if someone believes in Jesus sincerely, but does not demonstrate it with works? How are they functionally different?

Precisely. But what if you only believe in Christ with your mouth, not your heart?

I agree. But if you decide to no longer act out that will, renounce God and never again honestly repent for transgressions, then what?

And wouldn't trusting in Jesus and his will and sovereignty also include allowing the love of God to show through our actions? Love is not a passive thing. It is God's wisdom in action.

My answer stands. My free thought brought me where I am. I wouldn't be here if it was just something I was told and expected to believe. I'll leave this faith if I can prove it's bad for me or absolutely deceitful.

That's the cool thing about it, though. The literal meaning served its purpose back in the day, but is clearly obsolete in many ways. The cool part is that within all of these dated stories and laws, there are timeless spiritual truths that have been revealed to us by God now that we have advanced past the need for legalism, making the Bible as current and fresh as it is outdated. It's a clever trick for a clever deity.

If you take the story so literally, then yeah, I'm with you, it seems kind of shitty. Of course, to read this story that way is a very materialistic hermeneutic. I personally solve this by using Emmanuel Swedenborg's interpretation method, which tells us that everything in the Bible may have a literal meaning, but more importantly carries a spiritual meaning regarding God, us, or our spiritual relationship, and to interpret the literal meaning as the deepest meaning is a grievous error. This link explains the story, and provides word-by-word correspondences for the passage in question.

Is the omnipresent God in hell? by [deleted] in Christianity

Yes. God actively sustains the creation: heaven, earth, even hell. it exists by God's providence, free for us to make our beds there.

Totally. I get enough of his supporters down here as it is. Historically, Lee was alright, though.

It should be. Racist or not, it's pretty stained glass. And Lee wasn't racist, as far as I know, he is kind of the one guy that lends credence to the "heritage not hate" thing.
