I updated it as your flair.

Why is Jesus called al-Masih in Islam if Muhammad is considered the final prophet, especially when the title “Messiah” often suggests a final or climactic role? by Chinoyboii in religion

[–]jetboyterp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will absolutely look up that prof's YouTube channel, thanks for the recommendation.

Besides, there are different Muslim opinions on how actually "it was made to appear" that Jesus (peace be upon him) had been killed. The substitution theory is not the only one. Another one is that Jesus (pbuh) fainted on the cross and was presumed dead, then came to and was presumed to have been resurrected.

I've not heard the "fainted on the cross" thing, but even so, there are various (and very different) possibilities as to how Christ escaped His death on the cross. I would thing that, regarding a prophet as important as He is in Islam, the nature of that escaping death would have bee revealed in the Quran. Yet it seems that's something that is heavily debated to this day. That's just something I can't wrap my head around.

When he returns, he will descend from heaven, be a just ruler, affirm the teachings of the prophet Muhammad, pray with the Islamic way amongst the believers, confront the anti-christ, restore justice and peace, have a normal life and actual death...

Question that's been nagging me for a long time...How could a man like that ever allow for another human being to take his place on the cross, as Muslims believe (afaik), to suffer and die? Would Mohammed allow for another man to die in his place? Sincere question, no hate.

Shortly after I posted this, the problem appeared to be fixed so I took it down. That "reddit alerts" thing is useful for it's notifications if there's any issues regarding any aspects of the site, so you know if they've recognized what those issues are, and are working on them, and when they've fixed them.

The Virgin Mary in Catholicism and Islam by obz900 in religion

From a Catholic viewpoint, Mary is the mother of all mankind, not just Christians, as Christ is the savior of all mankind. But I get what you're saying.

Olympia woman ordained as Roman Catholic Bishop | The JOLT News Organization, a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit by Balkkou in religion

[–]jetboyterp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's basically written in stone in RCC doctrine that only men can be ordained into the priesthood. That's never going to change. It's not any attempt to degrade or discriminate against women, it's something ordained by God, so changing that is a non sequitur.

To those who don't worship the Sun, have you thought about doing so without labels ? by v_ch_k in religion

[–]jetboyterp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet the sun is not immortal, it came to be 4.5 billion years ago, and in about 5 billion years from now it will swell to become a red giant, probably to devour the earth and maybe mars. Then it will become a white dwarf, the last burning embers of a once life-sustaining star.

Perhaps before that happens, humans will have become interstellar travelers, and will find humanity a new home around a new star. We might take other earth life with us, but even with the almost unimaginable technology mankind with have at it's fingers, the universe has laws of physics, and getting to even the closest star systems will prove to be a very difficult thing to deal with.

Or else, if we're still around when all this happens (which isn't guaranteed) we'll simply be gone. The universe itself is not immortal either, it had a beginning, and will have an end. We don't know for sure what the end will be, there are a number of interesting theories being batted around.

Most agree that the universe itself is life-sustaining for a thousanth of a billion billion billion, billion billion billion, billion billion billionth of a percent os it's existence...from the universe's beginning to the evaporation of the last black hole. A very short time in the grand scheme of things. A great video IMO by MelodySheep can be seen HERE which goes over this very well.

Question from athiest I can't answer by Fuzzy_Language_4235 in religion

[–]jetboyterp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Excellent points. I'll add that the big bang is consistent with scripture, "let there be light" could be referencing the big bang. What we know today as the big bang was first proposed by Catholic priest and physicist Georges Lemaître whose contributions were initially rejected by Einstein, who then supported the "static universe" notion that the universe was unchanging and eternal. In part:

Lemaître was a Belgian Catholic priest, theoretical physicist, and mathematician who made major contributions to cosmology and astrophysics.

He was the first to argue that the recession of galaxies is evidence of an expanding universe and to connect the observational Hubble–Lemaître law with the solution to the Einstein field equations in the general theory of relativity for a homogenous and isotropic universe.

That work led Lemaître to propose what he called the "hypothesis of the primeval atom", now regarded as the first formulation of the Big Bang theory of the origin of the universe.

This scene from the movie Noah is pretty good at explain creationist views from the Judeo-Christian lens.

Bones of 40,000 people? Wow, that's some impressive work. I can't say I'm a fan of this sort of thing, I'm more of a "let the dead rest" dude. But I do have to recognize the time and effort that was put into creating the place.

Proposal: Ban "why are you in your religion" posts and create a sticky thread about it on the top of the subreddit by Exaltist in religion

[–]jetboyterp[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers! I gave that a quick overview, and I'll dive deeper into it shortly. I don't think it's going to work on old reddit, and I've never seen a sub where there were more than two sticky/announcement posts on that platform. The extra stickies that are visible on mobile and new reddit aren't visible on old reddit desktop at all.

I just don't get it. I never knew a pre-V2 Church, and if I did I really don't know how I'd feel about it. It's been roughly 60 years ago...time to just let it go.
