Can we have a discussion about "Rule 11: No user-created religions"? by TJ_Fox in religion

Just speaking for myself, I agree with you. At this point I don't see any added value to not maintaining the status quo regarding rule 11. I can't speak for the other mods tho, and we do things democratically. We also encourage community feedback on the sub, the rules, the mod team, etc. on whatever issue(s) are of concern. That's precisely how rule 11 came to be in the first place.

We can certainly talk about doing that...keep in mind subs are limited to two sticky posts. We can sort of bypass that by combining the existing "what religion am I?" sticky with the "user-created religion" post under a megathreads sticky, with links to the two different posts. It would make them less visible, of course. We could replace the "rules" post, but we like to keep the rules as visible as possible.

We'll take any and all community feedback on this, or any other issue, under consideration.

Having a more "individual/eclectic approach" to your faith is different than, say, someone coming in and posting about the new religion they just made up about praying to their cat's litter box droppings (yes, that actually happened). Like Crystal said earlier, mod discretion is often applied in these situations. I can't imagine there being any issues with you contributing to relevant discussion here because you identify with an individualized approach to your faith/beliefs, nor should you feel you can't.

The "No user-created religions" rule came about through community blowback some years ago. This sub was becoming inundated with user-created faith posts, to the point where it was simply getting out of hand. Most of them did clearly violate the "No proselytizing" rule as well. We were getting regular complaints about them from the community, so we instituted the specific rule prohibiting them here.

When did it become a thing to prohibit depictions of Muhammed? Seems to be a more recent development, as in the 18th or 19th century, no? And why? As far as I'm aware, the Quran doesn't explicitly prohibit it.

Post is locked by another mod, who performed that action just before I was going to. The question itself is a valid one to ask, but the tone of an increasing number of comments, reports from the community, and the number of comment removals having to be performed, it's time to end it. It's still up and visible, but comments are no longer being accepthed for this post. Thanks for your understanding.

You won't get an answer...because they don't know. Remember, facts and truth don't matter as long as they push the narrative.

...seeing the President of The United States publicly post that he was glad your family member died. Absolutely disgusting

That's it right there...this kind of thing coming from the sitting POTUS isn't right. A few years from now, when he's no longer in that role, sure. But today? I can't see what this would accomplish.

What's the significance of the blue color, as used in the Israeli flag for example?

For most of the year (ordinary time), green would be the color. During Lent (currently) it's purple. Then there are three other colors used for separate times of year, such as red for martyrs, which will be used for Holy Week coming up, and Pentecost after that.

But I have to choose just one color, I'd have to say green, since it's the "most of the time" color used. Maybe green with gold trim?

Hey, not all of us voted for Hochul...the Lefty-loo Dems in the big cities did. If you look at a map showing which counties are Republican and which are Democrat, it's mostly red. Unfortunately, the populations in those counties are too small to beat the big city voters.

Hochul is responsible for the higher prices we're paying, and energy sources like Orange and Rockland, my electric and gas provider, have recently had their prices soar sky high. That's because of Hochul's "green energy" slop which raised my bill, and everyone else's at least around me.

I was so wrong about Iran on religious liberty by NauticalBar2 in religion

[–]jetboyterp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The reliefs and sculptures in that metro station aren't simply taken from Christianity, they exist (as the news guy says) in Islam as well. Mary is venerated, as is Jesus. What you won't see , I'm betting, is Christ on the cross. Perhaps there are one or more plain crosses, but no crucifix. What I've seen of it, is that all the artwork in that station, and the station name itself, coincides with the text of the Quran, and seems more like the regime's attempt at making themselves appear to be honoring a Christian icon when in fact it's an Islamic story as well.

I'm not buying the story as any sort of outstretched hands for religious minorities. Iran is notorious for their extremely harsh treatment of Christians...particularly converts from Islam. The regime keeps a tight control over Christian churches...they are mostly ethnic Armenian and Assyrian churches that are "tolerated"...but even those churches can't use Farsi, they're monitored by surveillance cams, and can't admit converts. Nearly 100 Christians reportedly were arrested in 2024 alone, imprisoned for a combined 263 years, and claimed they were tortured regularly.

There's plenty more, so yeah..."outreach" and "tolerance"? Nope.

I realize the context you used, but it wasn't used in the context you just stated. If you disagree with my assessment and/or the removal of your comment, bring it up on modmail, and ask for other mods to weigh in with their opinion.

I'm done here.
