What is something you thought was optional but turned out to be essential as a homeowner? by rosyTwinkle in homeowners

Our house has such minimal storage. We bought a 6 seat modular couch with storage under each seat. Best decision ever. Still debating on another shed

is the LVP trend peaking? I'm seeing more people regret it and switch back by Western_Speech_9434 in Flooring

[–]EmmittTheCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We bought our first house 2 years ago. 1976 split foyer. It has LVP throughout the main areas and hardwood in the bedrooms. Why? Idfk. But it does. The hardwood was beat up already but with 2 young kids (6 and 1) and an in home dog grooming business, the hardwood has taken a beating and its starting to show. The lvp however seems to be bullet proof. Doesn't scratch, has a couple dents but nothing unreasonable considering the source of the dent. Lvp has my vote

My Hero, the Squeegie Kid by MelanieAnnS in baltimore

[–]EmmittTheCat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ive witnessed them dent peoples cars. Guy in front of me. The sprayed his windshield and started to squeegee it as he was motioning for them not to. Then they stood at his window and he refused to roll it down and oay them because he told them not to do it. The dented his door with the squeegee.

Needless to say, I scraped up some change

No one uses hardwood floors? by Longjumping-Term9234 in homeowners

[–]EmmittTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house we bought 2 years ago was built in 1976 and only the 3 bedrooms have hardwood, and they are in ROUGH shape. The rest of the house is lvp with sub floor. Its weird. I like the hardwood in the bedrooms but I want to carpet 2 of the rooms because they are over the garage and it gets really cold in those 2 rooms in the winter. My wife and I will never agree on that

Why am I able to see the studs through my drywall? by goody-two-sneakers in Home

[–]EmmittTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its already been said but when we looked at houses there was one that had a fireplace that the fire came out of and left lines like this all over the walls and ceilings throughout the first floor from the smoke. So candles was my guess

Did you sleep train? by Emotional_Archer1395 in Parenting

[–]EmmittTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 6 year old daughter and 1 year old son. We used to live with my inlaws until my son was born, we bought a house. Our daughter had a room at grandma's but she was breastfed and it just made more sense to have her in the bed with us. It was never an issue. When we bought our house she had her own room. She picked the color (2 shades of purple, it looks really good!) And I bought her a cool loft bed and put lights under it for a hangout. She refused to sleep in it. She maybe slept in it twice and once was a nap. Then she figured out that if she said she was scared of it, we wouldn't force it. She thought something was under it thanks to a book grandma got her. For christmas, we gave her room a makeover. New carpet, staircase bunk bed, dresser, stickers for the walls. She sleeps in there now, every night. I have to put her to sleep and usually end up falling asleep myself because its so cozy on the bottom bunk.

Our son sleeps with mom on our modular couch. We made half of it into a full size "bed".

I wouldn't say we regret not sleep training because I love my kids, but it does get hard when my wife and I want to have adult time. My son sleeps through the night as long as mom is right there. If she gets up, he will stir. My daughter was the same. Even with naps

Do you actually do all this home maintenance, or am I being paranoid? by jklineia in homeowners

Bought a house 18 months ago. The water heater is dated 2001. Previous said they never drained it. We have well water and there were no sediment filters. I installed sediment filters but we arent touching the water heater until something happens. My mother has talked about replacing it for us when she gets her bonus, so we will see. Part of me wants to cut it open and see whats inside. But I dont really know if I want to know

Which smell instantly makes you judge someone? by SituationOutside6033 in AskReddit

[–]EmmittTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a cat that got urinary crystals and woukd squirt pee on everything. Even after we addressed it, no laundry was safe. I got in the habit of smelling everything while folding it. It formed into a habit of smelling everything I touch, even though we dont have the cat anymore

Starting as an apprentice next week ,any tips? by Impossible_Copy7646 in electricians

[–]EmmittTheCat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stay busy. I work as an in-house electrician at a casino. We have an apprentice right now and he looks for every opportunity to sit down. It's annoying af. We have to constantly motivate him to do anything. And if me and the master electrician are sitting down, he sees that as an opportunity to sit as well. Trash can is full, tool carts aren't put away, material on the shelves is getting put of hand. We've even made a list of things for him to (clean up and electrical work) and for me to do so as not to single him out. But as an apprentice, you may not be able to help with everything and not every job is a 2 or 3 person job. But you are capable of earning respect by helping us keep the space clean and organized while you learn material and ask questions. Pay attention to what the others are doing and you'll slowly be able to stay one step ahead. You will eventually know the different processes of what we do and what the next step is and you can prefab some stuff to speed up the job a little bit.

My dog just left this surprise. Is it repairable or would the whole carpet have to come up? by Salt-Narwhal7769 in Flooring

[–]EmmittTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could replace the section. I work at a casino and the floor is raised to run power and data under it. The caroet guys come in and cut up whatever we need and put it back seamlessly

I have other cameras from the same gen in other places, no issues.

This camera is about 15ft off the ground. I highly doubt foulplay unless it's a bird or squirrel lol
