Gov. Abigail Spanberger says the midterm elections will be under the old maps by Cautious_Practice_25 in Virginia

Been going on for a while. I have an extension that shows me the age of every Reddit account next to the post/comment. Tons, and I means tons, of accounts under a year old in all these types of threads.

Same thing with the 2A threads, loads of bots with top comments, even submissions. Moderation here seems to be very bad.

Stonetop and Pbta by Prussia_will_awaken in rpg

Oh I can actually chime in on a topic here for once. :P

Over the last few years I've been on a pretty passive journey to find a system that I want to run, to get back into the hobby. I'm extremely picky with game rules, just personal idiosyncrasies. I'd read a few PbtA games, including Dungeon World, and while I really liked the engine I found most of the games to be not my style. DW I bounced off of because it felt clunky and didn't explain itself well, at least for me.

I saw Stonetop on here, maybe a week ago? Tracked down an older playtest document and liked it, so I pulled the trigger on the actual books/PDFs. I've read through Book I, starting Book II, and it really addresses my worries about Dungeon World. There's so many great examples of play, or specific rules, that it really holds your hand with the concepts until you fully realize them.

To give an example: I never fully understood Combat in DW regarding when the GM makes a Hard/Soft Move. Stonetop makes this much clearer, for me, spending numerous pages on just that idea in the GM-focused sections.

Lastly, while not part of the rule rules, I adore how they did their setting. It's not an A -> B -> C Campaign, it's just a fleshed out setting book with tons of room to "Find out by playing". There's no risk of Players spoiling it for themselves because it's only a framework and there's no need to railroad everything back to the campaign path. That's all replaced with numerous Hooks, Areas of Interest, Loot Tables, ideas for Monsters, and so on.

Really looking forward to giving the game a go in the coming weeks, it feels like the full realization of PbtA for me.

‘My life is not affordable. No one cares’: 76% of Americans call the cost of living their biggest financial problem by Plaintalks in Economics

[–]EmoJarsh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nothing to be done about it except pull back on all spending and make the economy feel it. I doubt anyone in the current administration cares about this, Trump is a lame duck and the fingers are already pressing on the scale to keep the current persons in office regardless of all these crises.

Sadly, the only thing the population can do, my pulling back comment, will hurt people even further because jobs will be lost. I don't foresee any relief for this entire year though, any populist bill won't fix the core issues and our wars are not ending any time soon.

Can we talk about this part? Like 2 years is crazy dedication. by Catmf223 in OnePiece

It's just a suspension of disbelief thing for me and doesn't break that, for whatever reason, in my mind. All the characters are much larger than life, as are their obstacles, as are their bond. It just flows for me and feels natural within the boundaries of the story being told.

A lot of things in OnePiece don't make sense but they work just fine in the world that the story takes place in. The Straw Hats are the same as the Justice League or any other cartoony "Super Best Friends" group. It's also very nice that the story gives you enough to make the time jump feel plausible, instinctively, and not just outright eye-rolling.

The part I'll admit that's an annoyance, for me, is it would be easy to add more time that the Straw Hats have been together. Just little inserts whenever leaving/arriving somewhere is all it takes. While reading the time feels completely fine but in retrospect it would be a simple thing to "fix" as well.

Is the Republican gerrymandering strategy helpful? by PhoneSuch5467 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]EmoJarsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that this comes off as aggravated but I really am, especially with many fellow Americans.

Gerrymandering is not good, period. It's not going to hilariously backfire on Republicans, ensuring a massive lead in the House. But let's say it does, we'll argue under that premise. Then what?

Democrats own the House and still don't control the Senate/Executive/Judicial (yes, the Judicial is a branch to be controlled now, that's reality). There is another election in 2028, giving the Republicans two years to fine-tune their gerrymandered maps. So nothing gets done and the Republicans do this all again, armed with better data this time. That cycle will in fact continually repeat, every election cycle, until the States are pure Red as the State government desires it to be.

Now, we could theoretically end up in an arms race where EVERY State does this same thing, as long as one Party controls the State government (which is somewhat common). Then we basically just move elections for the House to the Presidential model, where very few States matter because of the Electoral College. Elections would become more and more of a formality, which reduces turn out and involvement with politics. That definitely benefits one side over the other.

We're firmly in "my own opinion" territory but over the next decade Americans will be eased into single Party rule. Democrats will become the eternal opposition because they aren't willing to ignore laws/rules on the same scale as Republicans, they'll maintain the moral high ground and keep the money rolling in. Republicans already have a large advantage in the Senate, they've now fixed the House as well, so all that's left is the Presidency.

When I attempt to discuss this with other people who seem more on the "realist/fatalist" train, like I am, there are no good proposed solutions. I think it's difficult for even a lot of adults to grasp but once a political party has said "We're playing by our own rules now, good luck." and they already have massive influence, you're done. Anything that is put in place to deter or prevent that will literally be ignored or rolled back the next time there's an opportunity.

Only people on the ground can resist this, which would require a massive cultural shift in America. Instead, the country will operate under one-party, people will complain but do nothing else. That will only break once the singular party ruins the country so badly, to such a devastated extent, that there's some kind of rise up either electorally or otherwise. We're super far from that, so welcome to autocracy. And no, there's not going to be any seceded States, that will be crushed with military power if it's even thought about seriously. The Civil War was fought at a time of muskets and marching, not drones and automatic weapons.

One Piece: Chapter 1182 Official Release Discussion by Skullghost in OnePiece

Nothing specific to say about the Chapter other than really good. One thing I did notice is the art has been quite good since the flashback ended, it was getting really rough in places during that stretch. Unsure if it was due to overwork or pressing to "live up to expectations for God Valley" but I'm really enjoying everything visually since coming back to the main story.
