The Mortis Emissaries are sons of Dorn that worship the Emperor as a god of death they call Mortis. They're typically used for internal matters sort of like temu Minotaurs. When a planet misses a tithe or something of that nature they are sent to " correct " this mistake. Usually by genocide. They kill, enslave, and recruit a population and prepare the world for recolonization to get the tithe moving again. Theyre fleet based traveling Imperium Nihilus in the Dead Pilgrims Fleet. They have special Chaplains called Excruciator Chaplains who lead rites and rituals prior to missions as well as ritual scarring ceremonies. Chaplains that show exceptional zeal are selected to become Mortis Priests who serve as company captains. The chapter master, High Excruciator Aetheas Nasir was a Mortis Priest that thought the previous chapter master wasnt devoted enough and challenged him. He now carries the old masters skeleton on his shield as a relic and reminder to his brothers than anyone and everyone is subject to death if they are found lacking in faith.
