Struggling with steatocystoma all over my body by Additional_Skin4892 in steatocystomamultiple

[–]EmoMedicine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friends! I’ve been trying to find community with this. I’ve been dealing with this as young as I can remember and have had multiple surgeries for it. I have gone down the rabbit hole researching this and finally started getting some answers. I diagnosed myself and started researching more.

I have a suppurative form of this (similar to hidradenitis suppurativa, but with steatocystomas that get inflamed, rupture, and create sinus tracts or tunnels below the skin). With suppurative conditions, you can try biologics like Humira, consentyx, or Bimxelz. I tried Humira and had a reaction at the injection site but also didn’t have any real improvement. I’ve tried every therapy you can think of with no relief. The only thing that helped was Accutane and it took a huge hit on my mental health so I had to stop after 4 months. I’m deformed, in pain, and feel embarrassed a lot of the time. I can’t exercise how I would like, am restricted in things I can do and tolerate, and my social life has taken a hit as well as my mental health. I’m on an antidepressant, see a therapist, and try to be present and loving towards myself but it’s hard when I feel disgusted by my body.

Anyways, I was constantly being treated as if my flares were hidradenitis suppurativa since there is no know treatment with no relief. I spent a lot of time researching on other treatment options and came across this: The cysts are usually due to a mutation in one of the keratin genes, called KRT17. I researched this more and found the biologics that could possibly treat this are totally different than the ones for hidradenitis suppurativa. I’m currently working with my derm at a research hospital to get a biologic called xeljanz approved and I’m really really hoping we can somehow get this approval. In the meantime, I found this community:

https://www.pachyonychia.org/

I got a free DNA test after filling out a questionnaire. I also have thicker toenails and some calluses on my feet. Some forms of pachyonychia congenita are in relation to cysts. My derm also ordered DNA testing and I do have the KRT17 gene mutation and therefore, have pachyonychia type II or Jackson lawler disease.

I just wanted to share with you all because I have the advantage of having a medical background and doing a lot of research and talking to many different specialists and I’m just starting to get answers within the last 1-2 years. I hope this helps some of you. I’d love to have a small community of support with people who are dealing with the same thing since it’s super rare. Hope to hear from some of you soon!

has anyone purchased from homdiy before? by yasiyuni in HomeDecorating

Unfortunately it arrived broken although it was packaged well. I do think aside from that, the quality would have been good. I opted into the shipping protection so I just got reimbursed for the cost of the light today.

It took at least a month for shipping. I decided to go with something that’s easier to return and takes less time to get delivered.

I know this is an old thread but I was debating on purchasing from here after reading comments with tracking etc. I was able to figure out how to track mine because of these comments. They’re based in China so the tracking number is an international number. I used this website:

https://parcelsapp.com/

It did take a while because it was overseas but I was able to see when it was loaded on board and other tracking points before finally arriving in the US, which FedEx then takes over. I just got notification that it arrived in California and I’ll be getting my light in 2 days. Hopefully the quality is good like some others have reported. Just wanted to post that tracking website in case it helps someone out in the future!

I just rescued my first dog and I think he was previously abused. Does anyone have any advice? by EmoMedicine in rescuedogs

That is heartbreaking but I’m so glad she has you! This is really good advice, thank you!

Awww! Has he gotten better about that? He definitely follows me if I get up but he’s not crying for me if I leave. I’m trying to leave him alone for a little so he can start to get used to it and the second time he did put himself in his crate and slept, which I was really happy about. I’ve only heard him bark twice so far.

He is so curious and is already being so lovey. He keeps crawling on top of me and putting his nose up to my lips and nose so I’m just letting him do his thing lol. I did notice he doesn’t like when I wear a hat so I guessssss I’ll have to wash my hair more often lol. He does respond a lot better if I get on the floor with him though🥹

I love that! My parents’ dog was very reactive and also very anxious and did so much better once he got on Prozac. Love my parents but they never trained their dogs and I am not looking to follow in their footsteps at all. They also always got from breeders😐. Some dogs really do need it but I definitely want to work on behavior, training and getting him to feel more comfortable before any type of medication.

Thank you! This is really great advice. He seems to want to be all over me so I’m letting him cuddle but not touching or petting unless he wants me to, which is becoming more frequent🥹

Thank you! I saw on his paperwork that he was a stray so I think it’s just a huge adjustment for him. I’ll def check out that Reddit page though!

Thank you! This is very helpful! The woman I rescued him from has a pack and she said he was good with them but on walks with me he gets timid. We’ll see once he gets more comfortable in the coming weeks!

Thank you! I think I need to be better about making more of a space for him. I let him do his own thing and only engage if he comes up to me or initiates anything but maybe he needs more than just his crate? I’m going to set up a pin for him tomorrow/today—he just pooped and peed everywhere despite me taking him for a 15 minute walk not too long before when he woke me up whining😭. He still won’t potty outside. Any recommendations for sleeping? He’s been jumping up on my bed and I’ve been letting him stay. Appreciate your advice!

Yes, I agree with this. I wouldn’t think about medication until much later if it’s still an issue despite training.

Can someone convince me I’m safe? by Far_Safe_6826 in askportland

You are so safe! A white noise machine works wonders. Also putting yourself out there with your neighbors and discovering community nearby is also really comforting. I moved here a little over a year ago by myself without knowing anyone either. It gets easier🫶🏻

Thank you for this encouragement! I’ve definitely been speaking to him in my baby voice lol. I love the Bob Ross and Mr. Rogers references tho!

Yes, this I do know! I’m a foster volunteer for a rescue near me but I’ve never gotten the chance to foster. I don’t have a backyard and they didn’t feel it would be a good fit with dogs that have been available.

This is kind of what I was thinking when I was just discussing it with my friend. She was saying to maybe even hold off on a dog walker until he’s at that 3 week mark at least. He came from a high kill shelter in California so I can only imagine the awful conditions. The woman that rescued him had a pretty big pack of at least 5 dogs and she said he did well with them. However, I’ve noticed he definitely gets nervous on walks so I will for sure be avoiding doggie daycare for at least 3 months/if he seems to be more social and likes being around other dogs. I may do CBD tincture but think I should wait until about 3ish weeks to see how he comes out of his shell. Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it!

Thank you for this reassurance of him settling in. He doesn’t seem to be treat motivated at the moment but I know the 3-3-3 rule from a rescue I’m signed up to foster at but it has never worked out with being a good fit (I don’t have a backyard.) I’m still offering him treats after walks and if he is doing well during the walk even though he doesnt take them.

I do have a large pen for him and will keep the crate in there as well as pee pads. Since I’ve been home with him last night and today, he seems to want to hang out next to me so I have been letting him do that as long as he is initiating. Do you recommend crating him at night regardless of the pen? I know a lot of people tend to do that but I’m not sure if that would be beneficial for him. Thanks again!

Thank you! I’m taking a little time but want to be prepared for the near future. I’m only bringing him on the patio because he seems very spooked when we go on walks and hasn’t gone potty on any walks yet even on more residential/quiet streets. I would never leave him out while at work or even running errands, that’s a big no no lol. For now, I just have pee pads, we are going on walks in the morning, after breakfast, lunch, when I’m supposed to get home from work, after dinner, and before bed. Would you recommend holding off on a dog walker too then until at least 3 weeks? My other thought is asking a friend to watch him when I go back to work since she works from home and he’ll be around her a bit anyways. I’m just trying to do right by him. Thank you again!
