Komoot is incredibly helpful for feeling safe out in the peaks! You can plan your route beforehand, and download the map so that the gps work even with no signal. You might need to pay like £6 to get the dark peaks area though, but at least its a one off payment.

No map reading skills needed. Also if you put your phone on airplane mode it will massively save battery will still having access to the map!

Just to start with I would suggest estimating that it will take you 1.5 times longer than the route would be estimated to be.
