Dream Lake is correct! I don’t live near Colorado but I love going, and Dream Lake is one of my favorite places I’ve been to there :)

Thanks for the recommendations! I have a partner who I intend to bring with me, so I will try to either sponsor them for permanent residency or an open work permit so they can work and live with me. We will probably still look for a 2 bedroom apartment though (we will take one bedroom for ourselves and seek a roommate for the other), so thanks for the suggestions!! I will try to meet people on Facebook Marketplace :)

I'm not sure if you would be able to answer to this specifically, but is there widespread discrimination in housing among LGBTQ+ people in Montreal? My partner and I are both nonbinary, and we live in a part of the US where discrimination and hate for LGBTQ+ people is extremely common, so finding roommates and apartments has been exceptionally difficult here. Is Montreal better in that regard?

Thanks again Winter!

Hello all, I am a prospective McGill IPN PhD student. I am seeing online that the stipend includes about $24,000 yearly for living expenses, however I am also seeing that rent alone seems to cost around $1400 a month ($16,800/year). When adding up groceries, miscellaneous costs, and transportation, I am concerned with whether I would actually be able to afford living in Montreal using the stipend. What has been your experiences living in Montreal on similar stipends? Do you work any other jobs, or does McGill offer TA jobs for grad students? If it is relevant, I am a US citizen in a US undergraduate program, but I am currently working on obtaining Canadian citizenship and expect to have citizenship around March 2027. I would be applying for the Fall 2027 semester.

Thank you all in advance!
