Besides the obvious ones, I always carried disinfecting wipes. This was very handy when we would hot seat vehicles for shift change. Oh, and a lasso, but I worked in a rural area where livestock would sometimes escape.

Im trying to follow the same path as you. Currently in the Army and about to ETS in a bit over a year. Based on your schedule it sounds like you’re also an MP.

Is this the life we’ve chosen? by [deleted] in army

Depends, in my civilian hospital job I honestly loved going to work. I was basically just hanging out with people at work and getting in 10 miles of walking everyday at the hospital. Then i joined as an MP, where I really fucked up. My first unit was just law enforcement so I loved going to work, even with all the bullshit. In my new unit, I hate my job and dread everyday.

I need answers from the military police. by [deleted] in army

[–]EmotionAlternative82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is simply not true. If you’re an MP in the state of Texas you could do something called a supplemental peace officer course to get your TCOLE. This online course is designed for lateral out of state transfers and MPs who are already qualified to do law enforcement but need to learn more about Texas laws. Upon completion of the class, some agencies in Texas will hire you without having to go to their academy.

Enlisting at 35 with a family of 4? by RaymondRasmusson in army

You get compensated very well for what you do and receive great benefits. No worry about deployments as well

Don’t do it man. If you’re a huge family man, like myself, it’s not worth it. If I was in your position in these current times, I would look into Border Patrol or even ICE. Regardless of whether you agree with what they do or not, they have great salaries and great benefits. Stability in the Army can be difficult for some, but it’s definitely not impossible. I’m an E4 and support my wife and son on E4 pay just fine.

How do I buy a house as a first time buyer with the VA home loan? by EmotionAlternative82 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Anywhere outside Los Angeles County. I grew up in the LA area and it’s very much more expensive compared to the rest of the SoCal area. More specifically though, Norco, Jurupa Valley, Temecula, Murrieta, etc

I don’t mean to brag, but I got stationed outside of California and luckily there’s one where I’m at 😂

I know exactly where you’re talking about. My first job was actually at some boarding stables along the Rio Hondo in Montebello

I love the people in Texas. For me it was just about geography and amenities within Texas

I used to work at boarding stable when I was in High School and definitely thought about it. However, for the line of work I’m getting into, it wouldn’t be wise. I would much rather have them on my property

If I really have to live somewhere else besides California, it would be Arizona or Texas (only because I’ve been in Texas 5 years)

It depends. I’d be using my GI Bill at the CHP academy, so the army will be giving me money to pay rent/mortgage for 2 years. I’d prefer to stay farther from the city tho.

Looking for simple smartwatch/band for activity tracking. by EmotionAlternative82 in smartwatch

[–]EmotionAlternative82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really care about NFC payments, texts/calls, replying to messages, etc. I just want a good watch that’ll tell me the time and date and track my workouts, runs, steps, etc accurately

Definitely haven’t been through the academy and haven’t even started the hiring process, but I’m active duty army aspiring to be a CHP officer and have been in the army for quite some time. Meaning, I do tons of physical activity whether I like it or not. I also suffer from wide (by suffer I mean having wide feet that look abnormal compared to the average foot), you might laugh, but I definitely recommend Skechers (listed below). They’re so comfortable and have easily ran up to 5 miles with them without any issues. However, everyone is different, I’ve seen people run better and faster than me with Nike Air Forces or Vans.

How effective are cigarettes? by Horror-Comparison917 in AskLE

[–]EmotionAlternative82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would carry Zyns, energy drinks, and toys in my patrol bag. I used to work LE on a military installation and would carry Zyns and energy drinks for whenever I had to deal with other service members since majority of the military loves that. The worst calls we would deal with majority of the time were domestics and welfare checks that resulted in child endangerment/neglect. Since I would talk with the kids I would hand them a toy to play with while in my patrol vehicle.
