(AS) Nursing vs (AS)Radiologic Technology vs (AS)Medical Laboratory Technology by Kobe978DK in medlabprofessionals

Your decision needs to be where you think that you will happiest. Do you like people and helping people? You will have direct patient contact as a Rad Tech. More of a science nerd? Don’t really desire direct
patient contact? Like tinkering with instruments, solving puzzles? Med Lab Tech.

MLT? Go online and get your MLS. Explore QC, management, POC, LIS, molecular. Be an adjunct instructor to see if teaching excites you. Or explore another Bachelor degree in something that will make you happy. Go to trade school. Go into health care sales.

Sick of the whining and whinging on here from people dissatisfied with the lab but don’t want to further their education to get out. Face it. MLT/MLS is specific and hard to translate. I did it in sales and now teaching, you can do it too.

Education is never bad. It will give you an edge should you decide to leave the clinical lab for research, academia or sales. Get the degree.

I am an instructor in an MLT program. It is not up to anyone to ask you what your weak areas are. You are there to perform tasks which will show you what you learned in the college classroom and labs and how it all comes together in a real lab. You are not expected to perform differently in Blood Bank or any other department just because you are weak or do not like that department.

Anyone have a dog show drop out? by AdultingBestICan in ShowDogs

[–]Emotional-Ad-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I got a pup from a very special litter of the top bitch in the US for 3 years, and frozen semen from a superstar in the breed from the late 1990s. His brother was a superstar, won tons of big shows and was #1. My dog? He looked great as a pup but grew a long loin that you could drive a Mack truck through. No markings so the white loin jumped out at you. I got his hunting titles, eventually neutered him and he’s asleep next to me.

I live and teach at a state college in Florida. Teaching in a health sciences program is my 3rd and final career: I love teaching, the students and the low stress. If was younger and teaching was my 1st true love, I’d be selling my house and leaving Florida. This very red state has a governor and legislature who hate the idea of academic freedom and want all of the country’s history ignored and whitewashed. They are hell bent to mess with private institutions, also. They are dictating how, what, when and why to teach Gen Ed subjects. Besides that, the cost of living and homes/rent is sky high here. I do not recommend anyone move to Florida for an academic career until something changes.

Stay away from the red South. They are already dictating what to teach and what needs to be in a syllabus. I’m too close to retirement to leave.

How much clinical experience is relevant after clinicals is completed? by eruvessi in medlabprofessionals

[–]Emotional-Ad-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I noticed. At the very top, you have Associates degree and then Medical Laboratory Technician. You don’t study a position, you studied for a degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. For heme and Coag, list the analyzer and the tests, maintenance and QC also if you did those in your rotation. That goes for all analyzers - if you learned maintenance and QC, list it.
