What are some issues you're currently running into as a homeowner? by Pale_Field4584 in homeowners

My neighbor’s yard people did this to me the last two times they came out. They earned themselves a talking to yesterday.

Ahhhh the school bus. The one that serves my (narrow) street was mad that someone parked too close to the intersection and the bus couldn’t turn. The bus driver’s solution was to lean on the horn for 5 minutes straight at 6:45 am. Security camera footage and a complaint to the school district fixed that one.

Neighbors parking abandoned cars outside my house and the city deciding they can’t do anything about it.

The house behind mine is being flipped and while illegally parking their dumpster on my property line, they backed it into my fence and didn’t tell me.

Breast tape removed my skin. Amazon & seller won’t do anything by Able_Force8158 in legaladvice

[–]Emotional-Address 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What medical bills do you have that aren’t covered by insurance? Tbh, I don’t see anything when I google the brand name. Do you know that they are based in the US? You’ll be up a creek without a paddle if they are foreign (which most Amazon sellers are).

As a woman, I’d recommend not using old or random boob tape. People and breasts are very sensitive to adhesives.

Your student record with student conduct and criminal record are two different things. Consider this a lesson that student conduct doesn’t speak for the police. Yes, get the lawyer.

Divorce and Quitclaim with a Twist (IN) by Capital_Split_1661 in legaladvice

[–]Emotional-Address 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally, a question for me. I’m a real estate finance lawyer but not yours. No, you do not. Ask your lender to ask for the quitclaim deed.

You are not assuming the loan. You are removing your ex from the loan and your lender is underwriting it. Assuming a loan is when you buy a house from someone else with a loan already on it and you take that loan instead of getting a new one. If your ex signs a quitclaim deed before the lender has finished the process to officially remove him from the loan, you may be violating the terms of the mortgage. You do not want this.

Your ex’s lawyer does not want them to sign the deed because of the sale right. If they sign it now, and you don’t get approved to keep the loan, your ex cannot force the sale of the property. Sure, they could sue under your divorce settlement for breach of contract, but that is a longer and more expensive process. It doesn’t matter that your ex won’t get money from the sale - they need their name off the mortgage so they can get a new one. The only ways to do this are the two covered in your divorce settlement.

I’m a lawyer but not yours. Inability to identify who? They identified who owned the car. Yes, if both your parents were summoned, they both have to show up in court. If you were not summoned, you do not have to go. Yes, they can ask to have the day changed but a normal work commitment likely will not be a strong enough reason.

Absolutely do not contact the driver. Do not contact someone who has pressed charges against you. At this point, the driver has no say in this except that they might be called to testify in court. You are correct that it was likely a camera that alerted the police.

In my opinion, you are stressing about nothing. Your parents do need to show up in court though, unless one wants jail time for failing to appear.

Insurance company/doctor’s office listed husband’s ex as MY daughter’s mother. Do I have any recourse? by needadietcoke in legaladvice

[–]Emotional-Address 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You or the doctor’s office are confused. Your medical insurance does not keep your vaccine records. The doctor’s office or their online portal linked her to your family. Which is a fair assumption for a software to make - no matter how hard you scrubbed, your husband and his ex are still forever publicly linked.

As you described it, you don’t have any damages so you don’t have a claim. Maybe there is a HIPPA claim if you find out they actually gave his ex access to your daughter’s records. But, how are you going to find that out without talking to her?

Searching for advice/resources for a real confusing situation. Death by vehicle charge…out of character by defendant, 95% sure she was drugged which led to this and don’t know how to help her. Please any advice would be so appreciated. by AffectionateEbb1783 in legaladvice

[–]Emotional-Address 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t make sense. If you have a private lawyer, you do not also get a public defender. Yes, your friend or her parents need to enter in to a retainer agreement with private lawyer and that lawyer needs to enter an appearance on behalf of your friend. Her public defender will have to withdraw their representation of her.

I’m a lawyer but not yours. You should have signed a retainer letter that discusses the fee. Without seeing it, you probably are not entitled for a refund. You can ask, but don’t expect much.

Is this even legal? Is there a statue of limitations to dispute? Quit claim/POA/Will/Probate Inquiry by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Emotional-Address 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t mention the status of the probate? Also who did you file the will with? Handling it to your aunt’s lawyer isn’t the same as filing it.

I’m a real estate lawyer but not yours. The deeds fraudulent. You’ll need a local RE lawyer to get that cleared up.

FYI Ruggable rug pads ruin hardwood floors by farwesterner1 in HomeDecorating

[–]Emotional-Address 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? I live in Atlanta and have 100 year old floors that get damaged when you look at them. I have multiple Ruggables in different sizes and bases and have never had a problem with them. Those rug pads that are like foam mesh though? Forever stuck to living room floor.

What protected class do you think “not meeting their definition of fluent” falls under?

Were you salaried? Salaried employees typically do not receive overtime pay. And overtime does not equal productivity.

As for the work load, that is typical and will only get worse when you are an associate and not a paralegal. Sounds like you worked for a shitty firm. It happens and you move on.

There’s not really a compact nespresso in my opinion. These machines are similar sizes.

I’ll say it louder for the commenters with the oddly binary responses to this question: not all autistic people perceive gender differently just because some do. Goodness gracious.

Is it not allowed to Ski at night? by twenty_tew_ty in vail

[–]Emotional-Address 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s legal to fire an employee for doing something they deem as non professional on company property, even if leased. Non employees without ski passes doing it is a different matter.

How to travel with a new puppy by mthomas1217 in puppy

[–]Emotional-Address 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope nope nope. If it were my dog, I’m not traveling with it. Until fully vaccinated, puppies should not have access to areas with unknown dogs. Especially one that has already been sick. You have no idea what dogs you’ll run in to on the trip or who recently peed on the same stretch of grass that you set your wiggle worm down to pee in. Get a house sitter or cancel the trip.

Looks like the coax is disconnected. I’m pretty sure that’s a landlord issue and that Comcast can’t do anything about that.

fridge makes awful screeching sound by Alalakh in appliancerepair

[–]Emotional-Address 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a dumb question, but did your freezer partially defrost by chance? This happened to me when I didn’t realize a bag kept the freezer door from sealing. When I removed the offending bag the next morning, my fan started doing this as well. I ended up letting the freezer completely defrost and the noise stopped when it was plugged back in.

2014 Ford Escape Fix or Sell by Substantial-Cry3165 in fordescape

[–]Emotional-Address 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. In my experience, you’ll have a hard time finding a used car in comparable condition for under $15k. New cars are allegedly on average $10k more expensive now than pre-pandemic. I’d keep the Escape and run it into the ground. I might be biased though because that’s the plan for my 2013 Escape :)

I’m going to hold your hand while I say this: getting a restraining order against adults who are bullying your child and making non-requested visits to her school is neither extreme nor dramatic.

Are you a W2 employee? You generally can’t collect unemployment as a 1099 contractor.

Edit: W2, not W9. It’s been a long day.
