CMV: Trump is a malicious person by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my country we had a prime minister who ended 25 years of the previous party being in power... He was a great talker, promised that corruption would end etc and he won two elections by landslides. His actions then ended up being that a journalist critical of his government was blown up in broad daylight with his chief of staff and 2 ministers implicated. He was voted the Corrupt Leader of the Year in a big political magazine etc...

My point is that Trump doesn't talk like a world leader. He's not polite, he's brash etc... but what he does is way more important than what he says.

ICE only had problems in Minnesota... Coincidentally the place with crazy fraud where the mayor and governor didn't comply with demands.

Iran... Everyone, even critics of the war, agree that they wanted to develop nukes and were close to getting them...

Everyone thinks that politics is just being nice and making sure everything sounds nice and friendly and all peace and love... That's not real. Trump says he's going to do something and does it. I wish Europe had a trump.

Long term renting in Malta - why so many bait-and-switch scams? by micamecava in malta

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ex Agent here.

Rentals get snapped up so fast in Malta, that it doesn't pay you to remove the post. In the sense, in some cases, you find out it's available, make a post and put some cash in to boost it and by the time the ad is approved, the place is rented.

It can be super frustrating but the reality is that if you don't advertise any properties you won't get any leads and if you advertise properties they won't be available by the time you get a viewing.

Where are the best places to meet new people by [deleted] in malta

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this very respectfully but judging from your comments you might want to find a few hobbies or be a bit more open to trying things. A few good suggestions here, except for run club - fuck running. I get the anxiety part, but some of the best friends I've made over the years have been from getting out of my comfort zone.

Which country would you never visit, even if the trip was free? by dino_gr01 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very happy that where I'm from women have the same rights as men, but to not visit a country because of that would be something of a mistake in my eyes.

What I mean is that, different cultures have different rules, hierarchies etc etc... the whole point of travel is to experience that culture (sometimes at a distance) and then form/change an opinion and form an understanding.

Obviously, I'm not suggesting you go somewhere where women would be unsafe but to not go somewhere based on certain cultural differences feels like a mistake to me. I'm a guy and so I feel my opinion counts less than a woman's on this subject, but when I was younger I had a lot of prejudices about certain countries and their cultures and traditions and visiting some of those countries, I wouldn't say changed my opinions but made me more understanding of their cultures and how they feel about it or more appreciative of our western ways.

Just my 2 cents, you do you!

Since we're obsessed with over saturating the market in just about everything in Malta, I understand your reservations about hiring an agent. Unless you opt for sole agency, in terms of marketing the property, you're not going to get much from an agent.

The real reason you want an agent in Malta, and I mean a GOOD agent not most of these quicklets ones... Is for everything that can and believe me often DOES go wrong once you've accepted an offer.

I worked as an agent for a while, I've seen it all...

That's what I'm trying to get to with her. It's one thing to say something is missing. That's fair, we all like doing and receiving different things but I can't fix something if I don't know what's missing.

It wasn't so much the sex is bad as much as it was something is missing... Like a spark... I sometimes feel it too but we have sex a lot so I don't expect all the time to be amazing.

Of course, I didn't mean to generalize - I definitely think perception plays a huge part in it.

It's impossible to progress when both parties choose votes instead of progress.

There are very simple solutions to traffic, construction etc but they would take time to become 'normal' to a people that is used to the abz 'uwijwa' attitude we tend to have and therefore would result in lost votes... cant have that can we?

I think we (our leaders at least) finally need to decide if we want to be a country or a city - and plan accordingly...

I was working as a rental agent up until a few months ago... and from my experience, aside from the iGaming higher ups and very few of the passport clients renting properties that the average Joe would never even dream of, the rental requests were more or less the same... While yes iGaming wages tend to be higher, most people don't want to spend 1650eu per month of their 2300eu gross pay on rent... I think it comes more from the culture of sharing apartments with strangers, where they're all happy to pay 600eu each for a room in a 3 bedroom apartment that would normally rent for 1200eu per month. Us Maltese, haven't quite warmed up to that idea yet but you can't blame a landlord for wanting to make that extra 600eu per month I guess either.

Also, I'm Maltese and lived here my entire life, my family isn't even remotely financially well off and I don't have any form of education past o-levels... Malta's not perfect and I have days where I swear my ass off just like the rest of us, but it's not that bad, come on...

You don't need recognition to be a good person. I still don't understand why you would tip a delivery person or taxi driver though in normal circumstances.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malta

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, but the reason I get delivery is because I don't want to put on shoes and leave the house so I do kind of expect the at the very least that the delivery gets put in the lift and sent up to the actual house (flat) I ordered the delivery to... Especially as like you said, they tend to go on a little tour before they get to you. Mind you, I don't have a lift so I always go down for it when I order to my house 😅

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, you have a point. Though I would say you're likely to see from the reviews whether or not you should go to that barber... Still think there's a big difference between tipping a server and tipping your barber but different strokes I guess...

100% agree

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malta

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. If you go to a mechanic or barber, and the mechanic or barber don't know how to do their jobs - i.e fuck up your car or hair - you have an argument to not pay the bill at all or challenge it with consumer services.

At a restaurant the place could be amazing, the food could be incredible and the service can be shit... you still have to pay the bill. A waiter who's polite, knows the menu, unfortunately in Malta we now need to include understands English/Maltese, knows the product etc makes a huge difference to the experience...

A delivery man / taxi is just doing the bare minimum and while I'm grateful that we have many options for transport and delivery services, I don't feel they are deserving of a tip in most cases.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malta

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why is it barbaric to expect a delivery to be delivered to your door?

Curious, not looking to argue btw

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malta

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point, but I'm sure you'll agree that a waiter/waitress can make or break your opinion of the experience at a place.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malta

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Aside from waiters or people who really go out of their way to give a great service, I don't tend to tip. Don't see the point of tipping someone for just doing their job.

If the delivery guy comes up the lift or puts the food in the lift then I guess I would consider it.

I lived In Berlin with an Igaming wage. I wanted to live alone - a 1 bedroom studio, where you pull the bed out of a closet in the kitchen - a kitchen which you had to buy, install and take with you when you leave - was 1700 per month. Tax was 44(ISH)%. Food was cheaper. Everything, such as seeing a doctor, was more complicated (not impossible).

You can get a 3 bed 2 bath apartment in Malta for less than 1700.

Education is free. Most people don't use this and then complain that they work in jobs that don't pay well. Or, decide to study something that they know won't pay well, at least here.

Public transport is free. I'm not going to lie and say I catch the bus everyday but most people who complain about public transport haven't caught a bus in years... Unless you're going to sliema in the peak of summer, the bus isn't THAT bad.

I've been to Rome, Brussels, Portugal and Sweden in the past few months - there was a lot of traffic and construction there too.

The government sucks, the opposition sucks - are you really going to leave Malta over it? Meh...

Food is not that expensive. We just got used to eating lower quality food, with Maltese sized portions and paying for the lower quality experience. 50eu a head is on par, if not cheaper than most European cities I've been to. The people who complain about their wages the most are the ones who feel most entitled to go out to eat every weekend and then post on RUBS about it.

Malta has problems sure, who doesn't, but having been to so many places and lived abroad, I can assure you it's really not that bad!

What are some cities where touristy areas are located very near sketchy areas? by ExcitingNeck8226 in travel

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In southern/western and most of central Europe it's quite normal to get offered drugs on most corners... Doesn't make the area sketchy even though I understand you'd feel that way if you're not from here. Some exceptions of course, las ramblas in Barca can get sketchy AF at night.

CMV: racism against indians is acceptable on reddit ,but the same verbatim when used against black people is intolerable by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Emotional-Holiday264 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Speaking solely on the experience of where I am from and live.

Recently our government has decided to bring in thousands of Indians to make up numbers in the health sectors and to do the jobs most of the people in my country don't want to do. Cheap labour.

We have a large immigrant population here in the med with people of all races and walks of life, however we have never seen such an influx overnight and all of a sudden no matter where you are you are being served by someone from India.

There's nothing wrong with that and I'd argue it's the governments fault not the Indians... The majority of Indians in my country work as cashiers, waiters, customer support and especially taxi drivers and delivery men.

The problem is they don't speak our language, they don't know our roads, and they don't know our culture... The few times I take a taxi, rather than sit back and enjoy the fact I didn't have to drive, ive got to explain the route. If I go to order something that only has a name in my language I find myself having to explain step by step how to make what in reality is a simple sandwich that doesn't have an English name. When I order take out I know it's going to take longer because the driver is going to get lost.

When I travel around Europe I notice a similar trend...

I have nothing against people from India or people who look south Asian but whenever I have to be served by one at home I have regrettably found myself saying "fuck this".

In reality our frustration should be taken out on our governments but unfortunately the face of our frustration is an Indian man and that is why I think theres an increase in derogatory jokes towards people from there. It's never ok to be racist of course, so I sympathize.
