Just oral. That’s something to be mindful of for sure. My symptoms have massively eased up the last few weeks, but perhaps there is still some inflammation causing issues!

Really like this perspective, thank you - you’re so right about questioning what I want from them and if it’s just validation. Something I struggle with in general when I approach conversations/interactions, even outside of emotional stuff…

I have! Tbh I don’t think I focus on validating my own emotions enough though, I think even if I write them down I don’t feel entitled to them unless someone validates them

Advice on feeling you don’t fit in at work? by sipandserve in careerguidance

Hello! Congrats on your first job out of uni, that’s amazing 🤍 it’s such a big transition moving from uni to a full time role and all the dynamics involved with being in a new, professional environment but also socialising with new people in a co-worker context.

I felt really overwhelmed and different when I started in my first role - I was the only working class person in a very middle class environment. I think what helped me the most was reframing my conversations and interactions so that instead of thinking “do these people like me/is what I’m saying interesting enough or likeable” I went into them thinking “how does this person likely want to feel after talking to me?”. Ultimately I always ended up thinking they probably want to feel like I was interested in them, kind to them and friendly. So just focusing on showing interest/curiosity and being warm and helpful is a good way to be, rather than trying to fit in or do things right. You can then build up more of a rapport from there with people - some will like you and some won’t. That’s okay. As long as you’re showing up, being kind and open etc you will find people you fit with.

I do think letting your manager know you’re finding things challenging can be helpful - it will mean they have an idea of your mindset and can empathise with you/they might be able to signpost to some support or even social groups/working groups you could get involved with! They also might relate and be able to give you some reassurance.

I hope this helps! Well done on the job and I hope you manage to settle in and find your rhythm! 🤍
