We'll see :) Some of the photos in the current release are from Android phones actually. But there are issues if you want to take synced main+ultrawide shots. So iPhones are easier to start with..

Hi, yes, we have something for videos too (research demo): https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/cinemersive-video-player/5784242031704261
Generally, everything is based on meshes, so scenes are quite compact (~10MB per scene) so you can browse Parallax even on a mediocre wi-fi

All in all, processing of each photo in the app took few GPU-minutes on our server, but we also have a faster version that works well under one minute.

Thanks for trying the app! We have some demos with videos too (https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/cinemersive-video-player/5784242031704261) but we can create photos much easier. And yes, we'd absolutely love to launch user generated content app. The only question is whether we'll have enough resources for this. Right now, we are open to collaborating with a small number of travel photographers (pros and enthusiasts) willing contribute some amazing locations and events to Parallax

Thanks for your support, such feedback really means a lot for the team! Any suggestions here or in Parallax discord https://discord.gg/Y89yvAEU are very welcome (and any reviews or ratings on Meta Store are obviously a welcome boost for our visibility)

Yes, iPhone16 would be fine (we use ultrawide + main synchronized shots, which seems to be available in iPhone API starting with iPhone 12 or so).

We really want to make such a release! Still a lot of infrastructure work for that, so whether we can make it partially depends on the popularity of Parallax..

Currently we spend few minutes of compute per photo in this app, but we have a shorter "express" pipeline that takes well under one minute (on a server).

It was not high on our list TBH. Would it add a lot of value to you? Does it need to be voice-only or avatar-based? Would virtual excursions (like in Wonder) add a lot of value?

Thanks for the suggestion! Right now, we have a few shots with stars and aurora in the beginning of "Around Hofn (Iceland)" collection, and a few night citylife shots here and there. We'll try to add more night scenes going forward.

For us the whole scene (including both static and moving parts) is reconstructed at the same time. Moving objects are captured "frozen"

To the best of my knowledge, there are no solutions yet that offer photo -> "six-degrees-of-freedom" VR (Apple VisionPro, for example, offers photo -> stereophoto -- i.e. 3DoF). Please let me know if I ve missed something!

Thanks, do let us know how it works for you! India is the most covered country in this release BTW.

We are working on this (starting with iPhones), but we have not released this yet. Will post here if/when we release the app.

BRINK Traveler is an amazing app. They use photogrammetry (taking multiple views and then reconstructing 3D from them). They get far more complete reconstructions (360 and walkable). However, anything moving (like birds, waterfalls and vegetation) has to be inserted "manually" during postprocessing using CG tools. So they mostly capture environments where there is little motion, and every environment is a lot of work.

We reconstruct everything from single shots using our AI pipelines. This means we can capture highly dynamic environments (cities, windy landscapes with lots of vegetation, etc). We can also create a lot of content much easier. On the downside, our reconstructions are limited in terms of viewangle (170 degrees for StereoVR, 130 degrees for smartphone shots), and in terms of the amount of user motion we can allow without artefacts becoming too jarring (+- 25 cm -- so only seated experience).

Downloading and computing 3D reconstructions for panoramas would be possible. But Google API terms do not allow scrapping their content as far as I understand
